U10 Firmware Version Information

UMS

The U10 as 2 GB model is always a UMS type. Typical firmware versions are 1.6*.

How to upgrade:

  • use the iRiver plus 2 software option or
  • get the firmware file U10.HEX (about 10 MB). Move this file to the toplevel directory of the U10. Unplug. This will force a reboot of the device. While a valid firmware update is detected, it will be converted and applied. Otherwise it will be deleted. Changing to other firmware versions can be done easily: Edit e.g. System/U10.sys from 'fre' to 'kor' in order to change vom a European to a Korean version (which may omit a volume limitation: European is crippled in order to prevent damage to the ears. Otherwise, no differences are known. Any language may be selected from any firmware, as desired).

MTP

The U10 in 1 GB and 512 MB are available both as MTP and UMS versions (USA: 512 MB and 1 GB, both MTP; Europe: 1 GB MTP and 2 GB UMS; Korea: 1 GB and 2 GB, both UMS; other countries probably UMS). Typical firmware versions are 1.2*. MTP firmware models are delivered with WMP10 instead of iRiver plus 2.

How to upgrade:

  • get the iriverFirmwareUpdater.zip and use it. Active network connection is required for the 10 MB update.
