PMP Series Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a PMP remote? If so where can I get it?
- Simply to non korean users no, an LCD one is due but has not been released, the only source of the remote is buying in Korea, this needs a korean address and a korean Credit card.
Where Can I get movies for my iRiver
Can I skin my PMP? What do I use?
- Yes you can, at the time of this writing, the skinning program is still in development but is usable with some bugs.
Which should I get a PMP or a PMC
- There is no one specific answer to this, it's more a matter of personal preference. Take a look at the FAQ on the matter to help you decide. Most here will advise a PMP as it is a better player overall, but not as user-friendly.
Where are the PMP's games? How do I get them?
- There are none, the best we can do is to sign the petition and hope iriver will realise how illegal removing an announced feature is.
Can I record from the radio? How do I do this?
- As above with the games support this was advertised but never delivered. Sign the petition and hope for the best.
What are the best video encoders?
- This gets asked a lot, the answer is which ever suits you best, the 4 main encoders are:
It is a matter of trying all of them and deciding what suits you best.
I am new to all this. How do I convert DVDs?
- Use this thread to have the easiest way to convert a DVD. If you can't manage to do that then take your player back as that is as simple as it gets.
What is the reset button?
- Contrary to popular belief all this does on the PMP is to restart the player, it is like pulling the power out of your PC and then starting it up again.
I lost my code for the provided iRiver software where can I get a new code?
- Use of the supplied software is unadvisable. It increases file size often making files 4 times larger than they need to be. For those who wish to use it, anyhow, the code is as follows:
4A58-C294-ABD9-E61E-95AB-C303-6725-486DA1
WMA files dont play or don't play properly, whats wrong?
- Simply the PMP does a poor job of playing WMA, use MP3 instead.
I have emailed iRiver several times and they have not replied, what do I do?
- Simply sit tight, they will get back to you, the best option is to take it or send it back to where you bought it as it will be faster, iRiver takes upwards of 2 weeks and often about 3 weeks to reply. This applies to all players, so don't think it is limited to PMP owners.
How do I flash to a new firmware?
- Well first you get that book that came with the player, then open it on page 99 and follow the instructions. If you have lost it or didn't get one go to http://www.iriver.com and go to the downloads section to get a PDF version of the file.
What's the latest firmware?
What's the best firmware?
- Most users generally agree that the Korean firmware is the best version, as it adds video. But as some require DRM compatibility, they may find the US firmware optimal.
Where is the latest Firmware location?
I saw the H300s come with a battery pack, what about the PMP/PMCs?
- Simply they do not come with one but you can buy them at MisticAudio, otherwise you can make your own using the guide linked to in my signature at the end of this post. Many have used the guide and been very happy with the results.
My PMP is dead it won't turn on?
- Take the battery out for 6 hours to reset the internal timing circuit. Had this happen and this appears to be the only way to solve it.
I get system files missing on boot what do I do?
- Get Shamrockman's boot fixer file here.
and load that to the root of the drive.
if the operating system asks to over write files say yes to all.
I cannot fast forward or rewind a video.
- Files larger than 700mbs are unable to fast forward or rewind. Use iRiverter or another converter to make the files smaller than 700mbs to allow playback or split the file into smaller chunks using a program such as "Windows Movie Maker" all are free downloads.
What are the specs of the PMP hardware?
I cant get DB working
- The DB system on the PMP does not like long file names or odd characters so it may struggle. By far the most common thing that people dont realise is that they need to load the DB software and run it. The iRiver one is simply done by right clicking the drive in windows and then selecting the DB option from there to create the DB.
I think I fried my iRiver PMP/PMC what do I do?
- Email or call iRiver see above for the question on that topic and tell them what you did, dont lie, if you are honest and truthful they will likely exchange the player free of charge but they dont have to and as you screwed it over or someone you know then it is your responsibility to cover the cost of repairs but they are most of the time quite reasonable provided you are too. Dont hastle them. (Now if anyone PMs me this question in all caps again I will just ignore it)
My question isnt answered here. What do I do?
- Go to the FAQs and take a look for your answer there. If that yields nothing try searching for key words in what you're after. After that post the questions you have.
My PMP has a firmware booting problem, what can I do?
- Dont PM me that is for sure, I dont have the file, wont go looking for it for you and certainly wont email it to you, basically get off your own ass and do some looking and stop asking me for it, I get at least 1 PM about it a day! Speak to Shamrockman or search out threads of other users and PM them.
I dont understand something you guys said what does ____ mean?
- Read the FAQs and search the forums, if it isn't covered anywhere, PM a user with the question.
