HDD

From iriver Wiki, your source for everything iriver - a part of MisticRiver.

This page references an article on Wikipedia. It has been intentionally made less technical and shorter to make it easier to follow for new users.

HDD stands for Hard Disk Drive. It is a form of magnetic storage which is used in many MP3 players, and in a majority (If not all) PCs.

A hard disk drive (HDD, also known as hard disk, hard drive, or the now-near-obsolete terms fixed disk, fixed drive, fixed disk drive, hard file) is a digitally encoded non-volatile storage device which stores data on the magnetic surfaces of hard disk platters.

A typical hard disk drive design consists of a spindle which holds one or more flat circular disks called platters which spin at a high speed on a high quality bearing. Older drives used ball bearings, but newer drives use a fluid bearing for lower friction, lower noise and improved reliability.
