H10 Tips and Tricks/UMS Trick

From iriver Wiki, your source for everything iriver - a part of MisticRiver.

Most people agree that the UMS trick is a great thing to know how to do. With it, you can transfer music, OR treat your H10 as a harddrive to put anything you want on. The UMS trick will also allow you to use your H10 with virtually any OS.

5/6 GB MTP Models

  1. Make sure your H10 is turned off and disconnected from the computer.
  2. Take out the battery, wait a second, and put the battery back in.
  3. Turn on the hold switch (so that you don't accidentally turn the H10 on all the way).
  4. Plug the H10 into your computer.
  5. Turn on the H10 while holding the "O" button.
  6. You will see the message "UMS Mode" if you have done everything correctly. You can now let go of the "O" button.

20 GB MTP Models

  1. Make sure your H10 is turned off and disconnected from the computer.
  2. Poke the "reset" button with a paperclip.
  3. Turn on the hold switch (so that you don't accidentally turn the H10 on all the way).
  4. Plug the H10 into your computer.
  5. Turn on the H10 while holding the "O" button.
  6. You will see the message "Emergency Connection" if you have done everything correctly. You can now let go of the "O" button.

UMS Models

UMS models do not need this trick because they are always in UMS mode!
