Rockbox is now avaliable for the H10, and seems to be perfectly safe because the bootloader is not replaced in the process of installing. Here are basic instructions on how to install Rockbox on the H10.
On the 20GB
- Boot into UMS Mode using the UMS trick.
- Go to the System folder on your H10 and rename your current firmware to Original.mi4 (instead of H10_20GC.mi4... this is so when the bootloader supports booting the original firmware, you can)
- Go to http://download.rockbox.org/bootloader/iriver/ and download H10_20GC.mi4 and put it in the System folder of your H10.
- Go to http://www.rockbox.org/cvs.shtml scroll down and click on the H10 (not h10_5gb, just h10).
- Download the zip and extract it to the root (topmost folder) of your H10.
- Congradulations! You have rockbox! To boot into the Original firmware, hold <-- when starting up (currently freezes at the "System Initializing" screen)
On the 5/6 GB MTP
- Boot into UMS Mode using the UMS trick.
- Go to the System folder on your H10 and rename your current firmware to Original.mi4 (instead of H10.mi4... this is so when the bootloader supports booting the original firmware, you can)

On the 5/6 GB UMS

Common Problems
- "System Files Missing" error - This means you downloaded the wrong .mi4 file. If you have a MTP player, make sure you download the MTP version. If you have a UMS player, download the UMS version.
- "Rockbox Error: -1" - The Rockbox bootloader can't find your rockbox.h10 file. Make sure you unzipped it from rockbox.zip and that it is in the root (topmost) folder on your player.
- "Rockbox Error: -6", "Rockbox Error: -2", "Rockbox Error: -3", "Rockbox Error: -4" - There were problems reading parts of rockbox.h10. It is probably corrupt. Download a new version and try again.
- "Rockbox Error: -5" - The checksum in rockbox.h10 is wrong. Either rockbox.h10 is corrupt or, more likely, you downloaded the wrong rockbox.zip for your player. For 20GB players, make sure you click the h10 link on the CVS page. For 5/6GB players, click the h10_5gb link.
