Flash Memory is a type of electronic storage which involves no moving parts. This is what makes it much more versatile and shock resistant than a Hard Drive, and perfect for smaller capacities of MP3 players. The only real downside of flash is it's storage capacity. At an affordable level, Flash memory is really only practical in up to 4Gb. Above that, Flash memory becomes very expensive, and hard drives are better for use for higher capacities.
