Description

EasyH10 is a multi-platform, open source application, targetted at the iRiver H10 digital audio player. EasyH10 enables the transfer of music and playlist files manually (via drag-and-drop, copy command, rsync, etc.) to a DAP, preparing the player's database without the need for iRiver Plus or Windows Media Player 10. EasyH10 works with Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP (GUI version), Windows 2000/XP (CUI version), and POSIX-like platforms (CUI version) such as Linux and MacOS X.

Who wants to use EasyH10?

EasyH10 is for users with sufficient technical knowledge as to bypass the hand-holding of traditional software offerings. In contrast with iRiver Plus and Windows Media Player 10, EasyH10 does not incorporate unnecessary and sometimes cumbersome features such as:

• Conversion of a Compact Disc into digital music files (Exact Audio Copy, CDex, and LAME)
• Editing metadata information of digital music files (MP3TAG and The GodFather)
• Transferring music files from a local harddrive to a DAP (drag-and-drop with Explorer or rsync)
• Creating playlists of music files (WinAmp and foobar2000).

Whether a user finds integrated software useful or annoying depends on the technical level of the user. Some users may prefer the software mentioned in brackets above for performing the tasks described. EasyH10 assumes a user to be able to (using their choice of specialty software):

• Prepare music files with tag information
• Transfer music files to their DAP
• Create playlists manually

EasyH10 performs two main tasks on an iRiver H10 digital audio player, readying it for use:

• Media database construction, a necessary process for the DAP to utilize the H10's MUSIC mode
• Playlist conversion, also a necessary process for playlists to become compatible with iRiver's playlist schema.

EasyH10 version 1.2 released (2005-10-31)

This is an update release for the new H10 2.51 firmware that iRiver released last week. This update also includes a useful enhancement for MP3 files that iTunes generates for omnibus albums.

• [common] EasyH10 now oficially supports H10 5GB/6GB UMS 2.51 and H10 5GB/6GB/20GB MTP 2.51 firmware.
• [common] Added TCMP (compilation flag) handling for ID3v2 tags. The TCMP field is mainly generated by iTunes to indicate that an MP3 file is a part of an omnibus album. EasyH10 automatically sets "Various artists" as an artist name and "ARTIST - TITLE" as a track-title name for MP3 files with TCMP field embedded. This enhancement is based on a patch submitted by Espen Matheussen.
