i could grab a joystick remote on ebay. is that one already fully supported on rockbox?

you're not correct!!!! The lcd does not function on the optimized!!! That is because needleboy used a patch for the most common remote in stead of for the h300. In this topic http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=2392.0 corncoban posts a link to an optimized build optimized (again :P by himself) for use with h300 remote!!! http://www.violationentertainment.co...imised-lcd.zip
I asked for a dev to make a patch making the selecting process actually work so we could use only one version of optimized build for all users!!!!

I have your ebay lcd remote and with corncobans build it works fine!!!! You can also just download a daily build and patch it yourself, anyways IT WORKS 100% sure!!!!

edit: i love this remote, it's beautifull!!!! The joystick is a bit lose (it moves VERY easy, maybe a bit to) and i think a keypad is easier to use!!!! But it's worth the extra effort (navigating the stick instead of a pad!!) combined with the beauty!!!

I have the H300 LCD joystick remote and use the H300 Optimized Rockbox builds. I use the LCD remote daily - the only issue I've encountered is the one documented by needleboy and others.

When using this remote, the up/down, left/right buttons on the remote are switched when in the file browser or using the option menus; i.e. they work normally on the WPS.

Basically, this is how the up/down, left/right buttons work in file browser/options menu

up = left
down = right
left = down
right = up

As an example, I'll explain how to navigate to a particular file. In the file browser:

---Family Guy
------Episode 1
------Episode 2

At the root, to move the cursor down to the "Video" folder, hit the left button twice (once to move cursor to "Picture" and once more to move it to "Video").

To enter the folder, either click the joystick or press down.

To go to "Family Guy", hit the left button once, then click the joystick or press down to enter the folder.

To play "Episode 1" either click the joystick, or press down to activate the file.

It does take a few times to get used to it, but it does work and it's not that bad. For right now, this is what it takes to get universal remote support (except for LCD-less H300 remotes, i think) in Rockbox. Eventually, I think the developers will have solution so the H300 LCD remote & LCD-less remotes both work as designed with Rockbox.

I have an LCD remote and it functions just fine. THere are two things I still cannot figure out:

1. While in recording screen how to escape out of it.
2. To add songs to an existing playlist. The remote does not seem to recognize a long press, which is essential to add files to an existing playlist.

@ muscihound do you have the remote on the picture above??? Or another lcd remote???
@ muesli, anyways it does function on rockbox, it's a matter of a patch!!!!
@mozetti: all you say works like you say, but lok below for the errors i ment!!! Wich do get fixed with corncobans version!!!!
@everybody :D: No way guys, i did a total research on this!!!! Corncoban has the same trouble i guess (because he makes a complete own optimized version online!!!)

This is what i found out and please dont tell me you don't have any of these trouble :S!!!??? (i'll go nuts :D)

Ok here i go, i will discribe all the buttons in all the menus using an older version of the optimized build (remote patch http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index...06&aid=1401551

The bold ones are the ones that don't work properly!!!!

In WPS (all ok)
NAV gets to filetree (ok)
HOLD NAV gets to sound settings playlist menu (ok)
A-B gets to main menu (ok)
HOLD A-B gets to shuffle repeat setting (ok)
LEFT skip to beginning of song or previous song (ok)
HOLD LEFT rewind (ok)
RIGHT skips to next song (ok)
HOLD RIGHT Ffwind (ok)
UP Volume up (ok)
DOWN Volume down (ok)
PLAY pause / play (ok)
HOLD PLAY same as play (ok)
STOP stops and goes to filetree (ok)
HOLD STOP shutting down (ok)

After pressing NAV
NAV loads song or enters directory (ok)
HOLD NAV gets you back to wps and then functions as hold nav there (so you enter menu with sound settings on top!!) NOT GOOD!!! It seems as if it functions as play (on the player) first and then when it gets to WPS it functions as nav should!!!
A-B gets you to main menu (ok)
HOLD A-B gets you to shuffle menu (ok)
LEFT moves upwards
HOLD LEFT moves upwards faster
RIGHT moves downwards
HOLD RIGHT moves downwards faster
UP gets you up one level until you pick a song
HOLD UP gets you up one level (on the player enters folders and picks song)
DOWN gets you down 1 level
HOLD DOWN goes back for only 1 level (on the player goes into wps and starts skipping back)
PLAY gets back to wps (ok)
HOLD PLAY functions as hold nav so gets you in menu with playlist on top (NOT GOOD)
STOP stops playing (ok)
HOLD STOP (I don’t wanna try It again, but It) shuts down (ok)

While in a menu (they respond the same in all menus except hold A-B menu)
NAV up a level (ok)
HOLD NAV up a level (ok)
A-B gets back one level (ok)
HOLD A-B gets to A-B menu (ok)
LEFT moving up
HOLD LEFT keeps on moving up till reach top
RIGHT moving down
HOLD RIGHT keeps on moving down
UP (NOTHING) if the buttons are switched it should enter 1 level up
DOWN (NOTHING) if the buttons are switched it should enter 1 level down
PLAY enters a level up (should do nothing!!!!)
HOLD PLAY enters a level up (should do nothing!!!!)
STOP back one item (ok)
HOLD STOP shuts down I guess, ok I’ll try. JUPZ WORKS :S (ok)

When in hold A-B menu
All works perfect!!!!!

When off
NAV gets the player on (OKKKKK!!!!!!! :D)

if the bold things could get fixed it would be totally amazing!!!

All kidding aside - you said the H300 LCD joystick "does not function" on H300 optimized. It does everything, but with a few kinks. I just clarified for you. So, that leaves most users with a few options:

1) Use the H300 Optimized build, knowing there are a few kinks. (Available daily)
2) Download corncobman's patched version (Not sure on availability, daily?)
3) Roll your own from source & patches.

#3 requires work and some knowledge of compiling
#2 requires corncobman to make it available regularly
#1 requires you to d/l and unzip

So, considering the options, #1 is the best bet for me and probably many others.

Also, it's important in a community like this, where people come to get answers, to actually give factually correct and complete answers. Stating the H300 LCD remote doesn't function on the H300 Optimized build is incomplete, and factually incorrect by omission.

I have the remote in the picture and have my LCD remote set to that one in Rockbox also.

@ mozetti: you do have the same trouble as in my little research don't you? (wether you care or not is not an issue, just for the devs) You say it does EVERYTHING with a few kinks but if you look at my "research" it's not just a few kinks!

i agree i should have told that it functions, but not the way it should in optimized build!

i would without any doubt advise option #2, corncoban does update it often enough and the functions that don't work are kind of importent to use the remote i think :D! They all function well in his version. I believe devs are working on a remote select patch that does work with al remotes :D!

you sure about that?
listen, once again... i told you and corncobman this a few times already. just send me a patch that works with the remote in the picture above, but make sure it works with both other remotes as well... i'll put it in.

i posted that link for the rockbox forum right....? There somebody reacted and i guess is working on it. Corncoban just takes your source and uses the patch from the patch section wich only supports the h300 so it's no use sending it to you!!!
