It's an 8GB Nano - it'll be here on Wednesday.

Here TF is the Music Gremlin I played w/it for a minute at JnR Music today, but the battery died in the process, so I wasn't able to give it a full workout. Seemed pretty cool, though it gets reviews saying it's a bit half assed, which if the assertions are correct, seems fair.

It does Wi Fi, seemingly not AS crippled as the Zunes' , but touts pretty crappy battery life, and back when it came out, didn't have photo or video support, though that may have changed in a FW update. It's $199 for 8 gigs. A very light player, with a good feel to it, and doesn't look all that bad IMO. A bit big though, for JUST a music player.

Anyway, congrats on your nano. Try not to lose it in the wash eh ?

Er, yeah, that's a story that is still unfolding.
I went for the Audio-Technica EM7s (not the wooden over-the-ear phones, a model down from them but about 1/3 the price), the idea being they'd be something half-way decent I could use whilst still umming and ahhing over the E4s.
But they have not been delivered yet. I've contacted the seller and they are looking into it but it's very frustrating.

Well, size and battery life were the important things for me (after an 8GB capacity) and the Nano beats the competition under those caveats.

Thanks(!)
Now I just need to work out what I can use instead of iTunes.

No, none of the new iPods have it.

The new Nano has more differences from the old one than the 5.5G iPod Videos have from the 5Gs.
Apparently just about every chip in the Nanos has changed, as opposed to only a couple on the Videos.

That said, once I get my music on, the UI on the iPods isn't too bad - I would say it's definitely better than the H300's stock firmware.
It's just the transferring the music over that's the problem.

well, what is wrong with iTunes exactly? but you could try Yamipod or Winamp's iPod plugin.

What does it matter?
I don't want to use it, that's all.

I want to be able to drag and drop my music, not be forced to 'sync' it.

Don't worry, Step...the new Nanos are very sweet. I nearly bought one for my 11 y/o for Xmas, but it doesn't play videos, so I got the Sana e260 for him. But let us know how the nano soothes the beast that is Step666...

SS, thanks for that link! I'm gonna hafta trade in my venerable and much beloved H320 soon-ish and the new 'pods look like best-in-show, but I'm not impressed with iTunes.

No, especially not dues to the fact you called it a 320 to begin with.

I'm not gonna get rid of my H340, the Nano is merely to complement it, not replace it.

I mean, my H340 has 5 times the capacity, better battery life and proper stereo connections (which means I can use it in the car). I'm just getting a Nano 'cos I want something smaller for day-to-day use.

itunes is not that bad, really. and Yamipod messed up my ipod after dragging and dropping 70gb of tunes onto it - I had to reset it and then use iTunes. Perhaps it was a function of Yamipod being in beta for the 5.5g ipods...
anyway, with iTunes, I just dropped all my desired tunes directly onto my ipod from windows explorer in iTunes. Manually sync! never autosync! itunes is great for creating playlists, too.
still keeping my H320, I'm rockboxing it this weekend . . .

Will you be able to play RockBox games on a nano, since it doesn't inherently support video?

RockBox doesn't support the second gen. Nanos (yet), so no.

It arrived this morning, I already fear for it's safety - it's so tiny I'm bound to break it.
Also, I wanna get a case for it soon, before I scratch it.

I had to work today, so it was left nestled in it's box 'til I could get home and connect it up to the charger I got for it (whilst i didn't think the charger would damage it, I decided I wanted the first charge to be supervised).

So, right now, it's sat next to me charging.
Then I'll have to work out how I'm gonna get music onto it - I think I may grudgingly go for iTunes, I mean, you have to use iTunes to update the firmware, don't you?

I'm glad I got a Sansa e200--I felt the 2G nano in my hands...felt even more precious than Step says. Snap-in-half precious.

Well, I have every faith - a couple of my mates have 1st Gen Nanos and neither of them have managed to break 'em.
I'm more worried about scratching it than properly breaking it.
