Video streaking problem?
a while ago there were three people who reported a video streaking problem. the video had streaks across the screen while it was playing.
they downloaded the firmware multiple times, and the starwars and cars video, no help. they reported their serial numbers which i have posted below. 13214004090xxxx 13214004090xxxx 13225304100xxxx two of these are very close together, the last further apart, but the possibility still exists that there are a couple of batches of players that are having problems with the video. if you are having streaking problems, post your number here. two of these numbers are close to the serial numbers of the players that iriver say dont work with the new remote. 1321xxxx0801121 ~ 1321xxxx0802000 if you have one of these serial numbers and can or cant play video, can you post here as well? see if we cant find something new out. a

Alrighty.
I have uploaded new pictures of my screen that are in focus. I have no idea how I have managed to not see the macro mode on my camera for more than 12 months, but hey!!! As some of you are aware, I have not got the ability to play back video on my iRiver H340. I get sound, but the video is streaked (same link names as before, different photo's!): Video Example 1 http://users.on.net/artikus/iRiver/iRiver_Screen1.jpg Video Example 2 http://users.on.net/artikus/iRiver/iRiver_Screen2.jpg I have updated to the latest firmware: 1.25K (Korean) with no success. I have had no luck communicating my problems to iRiver, dispite my comments that I am using their own test video!. Cheers all, iKaruS Bungle |

ikarus do you have the same problem as i do?
do the horizontal bars have the color from the movie? in the upper 20-50 pixel i actually have almost perfect video but sometimes a vertical streak comes over it (they emerge from the bottom, like an equalizer...) another interesting thing i found out: the same problem occurs in picture mode, when i preview 4 pictures at once. then the marked picture (the one with red borders) is distorted just as it would happen with the video. strangely this only happens with the pictures in the lower row (the upper two or ok when marked). |

Hi Ignozius.
for me, the whole movie is streaked. I have uploaded a quicktime video file as an exact example of what is happening for me (it is a just under 2 MB, and slightly out of focus, but you will get the idea). http://www.users.on.net/artikus/iRiv...eo_example.MOV Cheers, iKaruS Bungle |

so it seems that at least one person (MBeeching) with streaking has a problem more with the encoding of the video than the player.
i downloaded the movie from iKaruS_Bungle but it wouldnt work for me. realplayer froze each time. it would be good if MBeeching and Ignozius could download that movie and compare it to what they are seeing. if you cant play it either then we will have to get iKaruS_Bungle to upload it again. a

Okay, the iKaruS video is displaying visual artifacts vastly different to my own.
The iKarus video almost looks like the player is finding it impossible to render the frames fast enough and thus is scrambling them as it moves on to the next. Maybe the duff players have an issue on processor load which is hording resources which then cannot be used to maximise video compatibility. My own video errors are skewed frames throughout on high movement sections of the video. But it is still clear what is playing as there is not a garbled mess of colours. Could you make the 'actual' video which is running on the player available for download IkaruS? |

no, like i said i cant make realplayer play it and vd doesnt want any part of it, and wmp doesnt like it either. must have been corrupted in the download. but given you have made it work, i will try again.
<edit> nope still not working, i think my isp may have it cached as it came down so quick. </edit> <edit> seems i need a new plugin, coming now</edit> <edit> sigh, still not working....></edit> a

andrew as i already posted:
i have the same video problem as ikarusbungle, but it's the same for all videos (encoded myself, downloaded from iriver, downloaded from the forums). i don't think there is a chance to fix this without iriver. and i don't think iriver will fix it i've sent an email to cs@iriver.com, if i don't have an answer tomorrow i will replace my h340. in the meantime i can sort my mp3 collection and set id-tags |

you mean the movie of his h340 playing a movie but gets only streaking?
yeah i watched that one, and my h340 does the same thing. strangely in the upper 20-40 pixel the video is almost okay (as you can see in my photo i posted before). the movie was a family guy episode, you can almost see someones head ahhh. i'm starting to fall in love with my iriver, and sending it away for replacement will make my heart break..... life is full of tough decisions.... |

Hi MBeeching.
I am uploading the file that I downloaded from iRiver's international site http://www.users.on.net/artikus/iRiver/iriver_cf.avi. It is about 12.4 MB. The video should be available in approximately 15 minutes. I am experiancing the same playback problems with all the video files I have downloaded (about 8 of them). Cheers, iKaruS |

Hi all,
Sorry I haven't posted yet - been away from the internet for the last few days. Interesting thread this! My serial no is: 13214004090xxxx (similar to some with and without problems!) Looking at iKarus's video file of his player, that is MUCH worse than mine. My problems are more like you can see in Ignozius's picture earlier on in the thread, though not the bottom half of his display, more the top half. I can still watch videos and can I see about 80% of what I think I should. I was watching another West Wing last night though, and noticed something - whenever scenes were set in dark conditions (i.e. at night, in curtained off rooms) the video was fine, perfect almost. But when scenes contained anything bright (e.g. the sky when set outside during day, white shirt on character, white text popping up) then THAT is what gets corrupted. Very strange. I haven't flashed to v1.25 yet, though I doubt it'll help. I emailed iRiver on Tues, no reply as yet. I have a lot of sympathy with the guys whose videos are unwatchable, its a wrench to consider sending your unit back! |

hi everyone,
I'm kinda new to the features of the mp3 player. I have the iriver H320, and was just wondering where do you guys get video from? Are you able to download it from your computer, and if so, what sites do you go on? I would really appreciate any help with this, thanks... Amelia |
