Videos on H340

Sorry if this question has been asked ad infinitum, but I would like to watch videos on my H340. Following another thread, I downloaded and converted some short video files with iRiverter, put them in a folder on my H340. Now what?? How do I watch the files?

Do you have a video icon on your h340, if not you need to change the firmware to one that supports video

First off, do you have a North American player or an International? The North American player cannot play video and will require an International firmware which will render DRM music playback inactive forever.

I purchased it from someone in Australia, so I presume it's an international player. What is DRM?

You don't need to know about DRM because your player dos not support it. If you don't see a video icon I suggest to download the latest Korean firmware. Not too sure about the version but I believe it's 1.28

One of the very last or latest firmware took away the video function due to we think copyright issues. Its been so long i cant remember which one.

I think its 1.29k for the video....
If you have trouble getting the firmware then try here Rasher's Rockbox related stuff - Iriver firmwares you may find this handy also [How to] fix Korean characters after upgrading to 1.29K
If you do a search for "1.29k video" there are some helpful threads on the subject. As a side note , f you are using rockbox then you can play mpegs as well
PluginMpegplayer < Main < TWiki .

Thanks for the replies. I checked out Rasher's site and there's a pretty scary 'use at your own risk' warning. I used to use an H140 and it was pretty easy to identify the current firmware - there was a separate folder. I don't see anything suggesting what the firmware is in my current 340 player, nor whether it's an EU, Kor, or JAP model. Is there a way to find this out?

Nevermind about the firmware, I think I just figured it out - 1.30 E
I guess I have the copyright protected version - so the question is, is it possible to downgrade?

I specifically recall 1.30E took away the video functionality. Yes, it's possible to downgrade. Also, stay away from the European firmware because there is a volume cap.

You need 1.29k, not 1.30 (E/J/K...) as it removed the video feature.

Simply download the file to the root of your player (so if you player is E: on the computer, save it in E:, not a folder), make sure you have full battery power, hold NAVI, General options, and then firmware upgrade.

Once that is done, turn it back on. Press a button to turn the screen on, then press and hold REC until the mode selection screen appears. Scroll right across to see Video.

I'd say that's just to cover himself against law suits.
