I figured the checkbox would be left checked or unchecked, and whatever jobs you clicked "Convert" for while the checkbox was say, checked, it would add to the queue. UI clutter will become a problem eventually. But yeah, I can definitely see issues with the consistency of the Convert button. Anyway, thanks a lot. I look forward to the next release.

Interesting to watch your program build up - from a script that did little more than call mencoder to a really full-featured app. Congratulations.

i took the advice to lower the bitrate and now the audio/video sync is perfect. i think this is by far the easiet converter program there is. Good job and i also can't wait to see newer releases!

Tired of listening to DVD rips at volume 40? The program now supports volume normalization.

It really helps and certainly solves one of my biggest frustrations.

zaxios, this is still little more than a script that calls mencoder

hi i was wondering if you [or anyone] knows a way to normalize videos that have already been previously converted? If not i guess i'll just have to reconvert them. . Good job with the update .

Even though the iRiver firmware isnt updated....3rd party programs (like this) are updated frequently. We need more people on these boards like the static.

I noticed something strange--my computer is a 3.2GHz P4, but above, mencoder reported it as 3.6... I tried running mencoder w/ no arguments just to see, and the first time I got 4.3GHz!:

Code:
dean@dim:~ $ mencoder

So on the first test it was 4.3, and then it was 3.2 (correct) and when I did it a few more times it was 3.2?! What the heck is going on?

(Sorry for the semi-off topic stuff, but I figure it might have something to do w/ my problem?)

Well the program should have parsed that output correctly so I don't know what is going on. My next suggestion is to try mplayer 1.0pre6 as you are running "1.0pre5try2-3.3.4" now.

If you want I can build a nice big static binary of mplayer and mencoder and package it up just like I do for Windows and OSX. EDIT: Maybe I won't. I can't get this thing to compile statically for anything.

Hi MrStaticVoid...

Ive tried to convert that DVD again, but it still doesnt work properly, Audio stream is not loaded when i hit get languages...that is probably problem of DVD, but it plays alright in computer or DVD player...
When I tried another DVD, audio stream was loaded, video converted but...
- there is many short movies in many titles and chapters...how can i select a chapter? because when i fill title 1, it converts only title 1 chapter 1, there are more of them...

- what about put into your application a menu where we can select a title and a chapter (all chapters in a title, or just some of the chapters of a title, and so on...)

In my opinion it would be nice...if you think it is not good idea, just dont do it

Thanx anyway for excellent program every day better and better
I wonder what is next...

If you aren't seeing any audio streams show up after you press "Get Languages," then you aren't trying the right title.

If you are only getting one chapter encoded, then there is only one in that particular title. It automatically encodes all of the chapters in the title. There is no way, as far as I know, for me to get a specific chapter, but if there is I will see if I can fit it in somewhere. Pretty soon you will be able to queue up multiple titles for conversion. I just finished the UI, now I just need to make it DO something.

ive gotta say, this is a quality little app. i couldnt get virtualdub to open and convert ogm (Xvid / ogg) videos at all, and this will do them. (time to get my family guy episodes encoding!) also compared to the 20 odd frames per second virtualdub manages, this will peak at about 200 meaning the video is done in one tenth the time.
a big thankyou for this.

First off, GREAT program MrStaticVoid!!!! I have also gone through about 5 different ways to get this done, and this works perfectly! I have one request, and I think other folks have asked for it also. I have many DVD's that are "episodic"... i.e., the first Season of Star Trek has 4 episodes on a single DVD...

1) Can I "batch" all 4 episodes into a single run?
2) Can I see the time for each "title" picked.. (that would make it easy to pick out the episodes (45 minutes) vs. other stuff (2 minutes).

Thanks and great job!!!

Matt

It looks like it to me that someone should sit down and test every bitrate for video and audio in order to get perfect sync. Whoever does this will be praised by many! So I'm begging, someone PLEASE figure out the best bitreate audio/video for the perfect sync.

I've added queue support. Good suggestion zaxios! You can add as many jobs as you want to the queue and each can have a different set of options. For example one could be using volume normalization and one might not. Another could be encoding for a PMP while the rest are for H300. Please let me know of any issues.

Enjoy!

It's a great bit of software. Much easier to use than virtual dub and divXencoder(or whatever it is called)

Fantastic! except that my source files aren't in the correct aspect ratio but that's not your program's fault, it's just some of my videos

Cool queue and so soon...
MrStaticVoid:
-About that DVD, maybe it is some specific problem of that DVD, i cant load audio stream, ive tested numbers from 1 to 15 with same bad results ( it is snowboard dvd with many short parts, i know for sure that the titles are numbered from 1 to 15)
-another DVD (again snowboard) is divided into 5 titles, each with several chapters and it converts just first chapter from title
dont you know why?
i will keep on trying and I will post my results

PS: all other dvds (movies) are fine

I'm still getting sync. issues. I think it starts out of whack because on a futurama episode I encoded the plane smashing into the screen is out by lots and lots. The sound is behind the video for some reason. Is there any way I can bump the video back a second or two or 'pull' the audio forward? The vids work ok on teh computer (source and encoded) and encode ok with VDub (AndrewMel's method).

I really want to be able to use this program!!!!

It is really sounding like the av sync issue has more to do with the H320 than the encoding.

If you want to test this encode the video at lower and lower bit rates and see if the av sync gets better. If it does it is probably because the processor is having problems dealing with both streams.

If this is the case then the ff and rw may be with us forever.

Valy CZ: When you attempt to load the playlist are you just hitting 1-7 for chapters? I would load the DVD in lets say WMP and see the exact name of the chapters because that is what the program is looking for exact names. On typical DVDs you just punch in title 1 and it works great but for DVD's that have series, like futurama, familyguy, etc., need to have the exact title name (at least for me).
