I've updated again. Recently I noticed that the sound from the outputted videos was scratchy. I discovered that this had to do with the way that I resampled the audio. So I changed the way it does that and the quality of the sound is much better. It also seemed to help the audio lag issues with dvd conversion. I also added more user-friendly error messages when it can't find mplayer/mencoder or the video isn't supported.
On another note: Serevinus, perhaps if I saw the exact error I could help better.

I dont get an error, it just says
Checking for libmp3lame (for mencoder) ... no when I ./configure mplayer I tried editing the configure script a little to try and see why it wasnt being detected, but I could only get it to say it couldnt find libmp3lame.so.0, I have no idea where its looking for it one odd thing, i noticed that in the configure script it sets _mp3lame=no and then a few lines later checks to see if its yes I tried setting it to yes and it did this Checking for libmp3lame (for mencoder) ... /root/tmp/mplayer-conf-23909-26923.o: error while loading shared libraries: libmp3lame.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory /root/tmp/mplayer-conf-23909-26923.o: error while loading shared libraries: libmp3lame.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory yes my configure command is... ./configure --enable-xvid --with-xvidlibdir=/usr/local/lib/libxvidcore.a --with-xvidincdir=/usr/local/include/ Any ideas? |

Has anyone fooled around with the video bitrate to see how things come out? I'm wondering what I should put it on for my seinfeld ep's, which are already pretty low quality. How about this for a feature suggestion: instead of choosing video bitrate, we choose a target file size? I don't know if this is difficult to implement or not, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Serevinus,
Doesn't your distribution provide updated packages of mplayer? If not check for a --with-mp3lamelibdir configure option (or something like that). Adam8281, A target size option would be very hard to implement because the video bitrate is variable. Even if you set it to 500 kbps, you can see in the conversion process that the video bitrate could only stay between 50-350. Pos: 1000s ... [$$$:###] <-- Where $$$ is the current video bitrate when converting. ### is the current audio bitrate.

MrStaticVoid - is there any way to further improve A/V sync? My H300VideoConverter videos, encoded from DVD, are just slightly out on the iRiver. If there's nothing more that can be done about this, thanks for an incredibly useful program I'll use anyway.
EDIT: Forget it. For some reason changing the bitrate solved it.

To those remaining with sync issues,
In my experiences the only sync I get is a few milliseconds that is easily fixed by rewinding a few seconds even with dvd rips. This is introduced by the player as far as I know and you will get it with other converting programs too. ming0, I just made a folder with some videos longer than an hour and some shorter. Using the Directory mode, the ones longer than an hour did split automatically and the ones that weren't didn't. The videos in your folder must not be greater than an hour.
