A Great Big THANK YOU to BBD
I owe BBD a great big Thank you...inside one of his many rants, he placed a gem one day...unfortunately he has so many posts that I'm not going to bother searching for it...but in it he said that he had bought a Sansa player and found it to be quite a nice player. I don't remember model type or anything but it stuck in the back of my head...
I've been looking for Flash player to take on trips instead of hauling my old reliable H120 around...it's just to big for my briefcase anymore. I've owned just about every model of flash player; I won't own Creative anymore because of too many failures, Apple (any model) because of iTunes and the fact I can't get music back off the player (daughter has a 30 Gb Video and I absolutely hate helping her try to get it to connect to the PC...have to be real gentle and very persistent), iRiver Clix (wife has 4gb) is too expensive for my needs and doesn't have expansion slot. THe other day I was in Costco in Taipei and sitting there was an E250 (2Gb) model for $70 USD...and next to it was 2Gb Micro SD cards for $25. I bought (1) E250 for my daughter's use at school (won't let her take her iPod, we all remember what thiefs teenagers are!!). I played around with it and was simply amazed at the quality of the sound and really liked using the scroll wheel. So I went and bought (1) for myself but by then the 2Gb Micro SDs were all sold out (in fact, there seems to be a shortage here in Taiwan). Nevertheless I took it home and was using it for about a week when I noticed a serious problem for me, the albums would only play in alphabetical order rather than track order. So off I went to find a solution and lo and behold, I found out that Rockbox had firmware for the Sansa player...last night I loaded it up and I am in High Heaven now! Boot time is a couple of seconds vs. (15) or so before and I have many more functions available to me, including a sleep timer now! Bottom line, this is a great little player...THANK YOU BBD!!!

Step, you l'il jokester....
One thing: I didn't have the album order bug...not sure of the FW version. However, since I was able to get my e280 @ Wal-Mart (and can therefore return it more easily than my H320), I'll probably get around to installing RB at some point. One bug I have noticed is the shuffle function always starts on the same song after charging or loading new files. The order after the first song is always different, but it is an annoyance.... I agree though--it's a great l'il player and more than worth the mere bag-o-shells price tag.

Only Costco seems to carry any Sansa players here...the album bug seems to be related to both firmware (I had the latest) and Tags (won't work with V1, must have 2.3). While my music was properly tagged and played in order on my H120, I had to go in with MP3Tag and manually fix a couple of the albums on the Sansa. Not a big job and not really annoying either...actually it was sort of fun because I also dumped the "allofmp3" tags that seemed to have gotten into some of my music
As for Rockbox, from what I could tell from others was the sound quality was a problem a few months back but has largely been fixed. I had to make some adjustments to tweak mine, particularly on the bass end (using UM1s but ordered UM2s this week!!) but it's sounding pretty good to me. Haven't figured out the Album Art yet...but using a pretty cool WPS theme...love having a color screen! The H120 isn't going anywhere...it's coming up on it's fourth birthday in a couple of months, original battery (still getting 9+ hours) and black leather case (starting to show it's age, just like it's owner). The H120 will stay in it's proper place now...hooked up to my stereo...and the Sansa will do the traveling from now on! Really glad I listened to BBD...this one time anyway....oh, did I mention that GWB's popularity seems to be increasing recently? (*waiting for explosion of profanity somewhere in the Great American Midwest*!!!!) Thanks again...you were dead on...
