Eraser's Custom Build

Hi there!

Some of you requested to start a new thread for my custom build because it's "hidden" in the
JTD's Darky build! thread.
Besides of that I updated my build again, so here it is

I synched my build to svn again and included the newest versions of the following patches:

FS#4733 - Multifont
FS#8400 - Backlightfilter (Only SELECT lits up the backlight when activated)
"First Buttonpress Enables Backlight Only" must be set to "Yes" to make the Backlightfilter working.
FS#5855 - Pong Upgrades
FS#5555 - Record Button Configuration
FS#8806 - MikMOD, MOD, S3M, IT, XM player
FS#8934 - Colourful flashlight
FS#5697 - bmp resize patch
FS#7814 - Enable H300, X5 and M5 RTC Alarm

Most important is the new alarm patch with solves the "--:--" time display problem of the old version.

Download here

If you have ideas or wishes for other patches to include, post them here.

Have fun!

Great job!Thanks.

But it seems that my H340 cannot turn off the backlight by using the Bootloader(compiled from SVN REV. 17607) when charging,is it a bug or something?

This may be a bit obvious, but have you already tried booting into the iRiver firmware (holding down Play and then pressing Record), and adjusting the backlight settings there?

Oh, forgot to mention -- thanks Eraser!

You've already got the patches I want most, but if I can think of some others I'll post suggestions here.

BTW, for those of you who -- like me -- were totally frustrated by how almost all existing WPS were broken by recent changes to the SVN -- even very recent WPS like Winterdark, and simple ones like Ultima -- I think most of them are failing because of the changes to the Progress Bar syntax. There were other changes -- like dropping the %m tag -- but for recent WPS, it is the Progress Bar that is the problem. This was of course announced on the Rockbox website, but I haven't been following the WPS changes for a while now.

I'll make a post about it if anyone wants some help changing their favourite WPS. For me, the tough part was trying to figure out what those obsolete tags do when the documentation for them is no longer easy to find on the Rockbox site.

Already adjusted(both rockbox and iriver original firmware).Do you have this problem?
I got no backlight problem when I use the iriver firmware to charge.

No, I don't have this problem. I usually use the iRiver firmware to charge, but I just tested charging under Rockbox, and the backlight does go off during charging. I had "Backlight (While Plugged In)" set to 90 seconds, didn't try other options.

So basically, my backlight will go off whether I'm charging in Rockbox or using the iRiver firmware.

Did you using the Bootloader to charge? It's different from using Rockbox to charge.
Using the Bootloader to charge doesn't need to switch on the DAP, just plug in the charger and the Bootloader will load automatically without loading the whole Rockbox firmware.

I also had "Backlight (While Plugged In)" set to 90 seconds,
no problem using Rockbox to charge(backlight goes off),
no problem using iriver firmware to charge also,
but got a problem using the Bootloader to charge, backlight does not go off, remains on forever...

In order to turn off the backlight during charging, I need to switch on the player to boot on Rockbox or iriver firmware now

I think this is by design. The bootloader is kept as simple as possible in order to avoid errors. So reading backlight settings from a file on the harddisk is not something the bootloader should do.
If something goes wrong in the bootloader then the player could become unusable.

And is it really that bad if you have to press PLAY once to boot the firmware (and thus have the backlight turn off after the timeout)?

Also, you don't even have to finish for it to finish booting. Just plug 'er in as soon as you see the boot screen pop up (ie press play, immediately plug-in the charger, and you're set).

thanks for the new build eraser!

Thanks Eraser212!

I was reading around a little (have to read more) because I'm thinking of redoing some WPSs for this build, and I want to understand viewports and multifont.

Have you included the patch listed here in a question you asked on the multifont patch thread at rockbox.org?

@kugel

Sorry, that I ask this again,
but could you please post a short example of how to use
multiple fonts with the current patch?

Is it still possible to declare fonts in whileplayingscreens which
don't use viewports?

I want to use two different fonts, one font for the menu and one font
for the wps.

thanks, Hendrik

Ok, here you go.

At first, multifont doesn't support this:

menufont: /.rockbox/fonts/nimbus-12.fnt
browserfont: /.rockbox/fonts/nimbus-12.fnt
recordont: /.rockbox/fonts/nimbus-12.fnt
tunerfont: /.rockbox/fonts/nimbus-12.fnt
wpsfont: /.rockbox/fonts/nedore-9.fnt

anymore (themes using this will be broken).

Multiple fonts are set up like this:

userfontn: /path/to/font/font.fnt (with n being 1 upto 8, and /path/to/rockbox = /.rockbox/fonts in most cases)
example:
userfont1: /.rockbox/fonts/nedore-9.fnt
...
userfont8: /.rockbox/fonts/nedore-9.fnt

As of now, you can only use them in the wps, since it is the only screen which supports configurable viewports (except with my custom list patch(FS#8799) applied, then the menues/filetree can use a userfont as well).

And yes, this means the wps needs viewport. But, that's not a drawback. Viewports is in SVN, and defining a fullscreen which uses a userfont is easy, e.g.

%V|0|0|176|220|2|FFF FFF|000000| # this example is for e200 and uses userfont1.

As you could see, 2 is userfont1. So, userfont2 is 3, and so on. That's because the default font is 1.
ie: is the list font patch included? I'd like to know for setting the CFG files for the themes.

@everyone: should we start an Eraser212 WPS thread?

if you want, but i don't think there'll be that many custom WPSs being made for just this build...this forum has been kind of dead.

I'd just post any eraser specific WPSs in this thread [include a picture with it to make it stand out] and maybe eraser can add links to the first post of this thread so people can find them easier.

@schwab002:

Fair enough, I should have one tonight, I hope, and I'll post it here.

@all:
BTW, has anyone else not seen the clock appear? I just dropped the new build over the old one, so I'll try a complete replace... but I was somewhat surprised to see no clock, as that was one of the main points.

Also, I didn't see the "First Buttonpress Enables Backlight Only" option in the LCD settings. It does appear for the Remote LCD settings though.

I'll redo the installation and confirm. Either way, I expect to work on at least one theme tonight (and if it's Jclix, then there will be several variants.)

ps: thanks, as always, Eraser212

Did you set the clock again after installing the new build?

Does this build support CF cards? I find that the build for H300s running CF doesn't seem to work with many themes...

CF support was added on 2008-03-09 to SVN. So every build that was created after that date should support CF cards.

Hmm, thats weird. According to wintermute and petur on the rockbox forums, you do need the patched loader to run CF on the H300...

He said "every build". Both the build and the bootloader need to support it, not either alone. He's correct in that every build made after that date will. It will do no good without a working bootloader. Just like a working bootloader won't be particularly useful without a working build too.

Just tried the bootloader and build. The bootloader's fine, but the build doesn't work properly in that it has trouble playing back music.

@rogue_ronin
You are right, the option "First Buttonpress Enables Backlight Only" has been removed in the newest Backlightfilter patch.
You can use the "Backlight On Buttons" option instead.

@nsx_23
Could you specify your problem?
Do you use a CF card?

I'm using a Ridata 32GB CF card.

Your bootloader works fine, its the build that doesn't work. Once I selected a music track to play, it just continues to try and load it, but there's no actual playback (ie Sound).

Eraser212,
Is it possible to compile a simulator with the same patches?
(It really makes working on themes a lot easier.)

P.S. Thanks for your efforts!
