hi,
I was not kidding when I said I spent a few days on this. It is really tricky getting it to work. I agree with you that there a lot of things that could be done to reduce the size and still maintain functionality. It is not particularly efficiant code and, as you have noticed, the volume line is a good example of a line that could be dramatically reduced in size. The version I have uploaded has really only removed some of the animations, which are just a bit of eye candy which is not overly necessary. I will have a look at the 100x100 version as a priority. Yeah, I just spent about 8 hours on the jClix themes. (They're identical except for backdrops and backgrounds.)
I literally copied one line at a time into a dummy theme, saved, disconnected and restarted the dummy theme each time. I removed a complicated (overly) shuffle/repeat mode conditional. I fixed the time codes (and removed the sub-lines -- annoying), and a few other small things. Nothing major, and nothing that solved the problem in the original file. That wasn't the problem. I don't think a single line of code other than the clock codes needed to be changed, and that didn't cause the magically appearing lines. Just bad display where the clock should be. When I had done the complete file, it worked. When I applied the changes to the original theme, my symptoms reappeared! (Symptoms: Title or Next Title, or sometimes Album would appear duplicated and scrolling in the upper left.) I had worked from a simplified Boxes config during the wps repair. Turns out it was the config file! More specifically, it was the rwps line in the config file. (I created a rwps for jClix themes based on the one I made for your Clean theme.) So I commented it out, commented out the two extra fonts required for jClix to work with the Clean rwps, and boom it worked fine. Multifont can have up to 7 fonts, Clean and jClix each use 5 (2 are different, which is why I added them to jClix -- to match the ones the rwps required, but were only in Clean.) I think I'm going to try commenting out the rwps line in your original Clean files and see if that solves the problem. I doubt it will, from what you've said. It does move the issue (or many of them) into a code problem for the maintainers, right? I know that you already identified this, just going into it in some detail. I don't seem to have bumped up against a size issue, but the jClix are simpler than the Clean. I did add a lot of comments to the original file to help with clarity, which increased the file size, but not the code size. If anyone wants my modified jClix wps, I'll be glad to provide it. You should either comment out the rwps line in your theme config files, or remove scrolling in the rwps file, as suggested by flash62 m a r ps: long...dang...night -- and I love the minimal Darky build! |

I would recommend both of my WPS that work with Darky's built. They use 100x100 Cover Art.
JPmyPod-H100_pb and JPClix_100_hybrid download from WPS Collection | To make them work for the latest Darky's build just read (You can see different screenshots of them ): WPS: JPmyPod-H100_pb JPClixHybrid 100x100 wps

if you guy want I can make available some space and an upload/download for the darky compatible WPS's.

That would be a very good idea, I think. Then people would have a place to share. I could repackage the jClix I've done, I suppose.
And I'd love to have a single place to go, instead of having to search the interwebs high and low. And then have to edit anyway! m a r |

I will totally put Darky's new build on my H320 when it comes out, but until then, the official build from the Rockbox site is fairly acceptable. I am finding with recent updates that I can do everything that I personally want in my WPS, and performance is excellent - the CPU doesn't boost at all when playing my OGG files now.
I do miss the shortcut keys to get to the playlist, and I miss the backlight filter patch, but otherwise, all good. |

Why not just use Rockbox WPS Collection | ?
You can upload a screencapture of the WPS and write details of it. Just include in the name the date and/or rockbox build it works with. I don't know why yours is needed but thanks Kezza.

Probably the ones there don't work with darky's because they are old. Mine from the site worked with Kosh build. You need to go to the misticriver link if you want to use them with darky's build. Of course I don't know about other builds. you will need to try them.

All of you can come up with your own build. I did builds for the public for a long time and I took the stuff from paulheu, and so on. Take the sources, the patches from the rockbox tracker and go ...

You know what? As much as I used to love Norbu's build, and Darky's build (big BIG thanks to both of you), I've started using the daily builds from rockbox.org and I really don't miss much. (Except maybe the backlight filter).
The advantage is you get to play with all the new features as soon as they come out rather than waiting for someone to have free time to do a custom build. I totally appreciate that Darky might have other fish to fry now that he's finished his studies, and as for me, well I am enjoying the latest frame rate boosts from video on the current build, and my sister can now play her WMA files etc. Everybody wins. Of course, some people might want features that don't matter to me - right scroll margins, REP etc... |
