issure with subtitles

i got a movie with a .srt file with subtitles how do i put this on my iriver- i need the subtitles to work? i converted the video now what do i do witht the file was i somehow to embed it in the video- how?

You will need to re-encode the video, mixing the subtitle to video. I don't think I'd bother trying to convert it into a Rockbox-playable format, because it will probably be simpler to use one of the regular iRiver video conversion programs.

I usually use Badak to do this, because you can download presets for the H300 for Badak, and because I don't think most of the other iRiver programs will let you mix in a separate subtitle file. Pocket DiVx Encoder will, but I remember having many problems with the subtitle rendering. iRiverter currently won't handle separate subtitle files at all, I think.

With Badak, I take the original video as input, and make sure there is an .smi (SAMI captioning) version of the subtitle file in the same directory, with the same name as the video file, but with the different extension. To convert .srt to .smi, I use Subtitle Workshop.

For example, if the original video's name is "grover.avi", I can just select the H300 preset in Badak, and if there is a subtitle file named "grover.smi" in the same directory, Badak will mix it into the iRiver format video.

There is already a tutorial on MisticRiver on the setup and general use of Badak (it's originally a Korean program). Oh, and I use the version dated March 10, 2007, which supports multithreading if you have a dual core CPU. There is an even more recent version, dated April, but I have trouble with that one in dealing with letterboxed video.
