battery help!!

ok i installed a 2200mah battery from batteryship.com and it was a bit bulky but it fit- it was charging just now and i decided to turn it on while it was charging
it made a weird sound and said check hdd connection and then it turned on and waS BLANK I FREAKED
i unscrewed the iriver and i turned it back on and everything was there
my battery seemed to be pushing against the hard drive but what was weird was that the battery felt a bit mushy and puffed up with air...?
is that normal while its charging
should i leave off the side screws so this wont happen
what should i do
please somebody help me!!
thanks

Not normal at all man. Sounds like you have a ballooned battery.

When this happened to me it destroyed my hard drive (i had it in the cradle for a few days and didn't realise )

I recommend you replace the battery with a good Cameron Sino. They are streets ahead in terms of quality. There haven't been any reported cases of them ballooning on this forum yet.

My thread, with all my dramas of ballooning batteries is here -> H340 bricked :( Please help.

I just bought the official Apple batteries at an official Apple reseller..... 2 batteries for 10 Euro's. They are present all over the world. You'll get a nice set of (plastic) tools with them. My H300 is now ready for another 3-4 years of service! I wonder what Rockbox will look like in three years.....

You want to look for a cameron sino 1st/2nd gen ipod battery. They can be found on ebay and online stores. Check the link in my sig for a thread on battery sources.

If you email the people who you got your current battery from then they should replace it or refund your money.

AFAIK this battery is a Cameron Sino and gives you extended battery life because it is 2200mah

This is the store I (and most other misticriver people) used.

http://stores.ebay.com.au/LicketySplitAuctions

They are on holiday for a bit but should be up and running again soon. My batt was crazy cheap and arrived in 4 days. I was very happy with them.

If you prefer safety of your H300 to the capacity of battery, I contacted iRiver's official distributor for my country (Czech Republic, but i think it should be the same elsewhere), an they said they can sell me replacement battery for about $30.
Good things:
1) battery shouldn't baloon
2) if it bricks my player, and they won't pay it, I can sue them and it's gonna be easier as they aren't half a world away (hello to singapore sellers...)
