Rockbox and Battery life on H3x0?

Hey all,

Almost a new H320 owner. It's coming with a nearly dead battery, but I am also getting a replacement fairly quickly.

So, to my question. The Rockbox comparison page of the iRivers has the H10 5/6/20GB as 'Unknown', which I know, and ~16 hours to 30+ hours on the H300 series.

I am wondering if that is what most are getting with Rockbox currently on their H300's?
Is it even close?
On my H10 5GB, it's more or less an hour and a half to two hours before it shuts down in that horrible way (volume bumps to max), but that is more than likely because the battery is getting worn.

-Josh

Last time I checked, a little over 33 hours.

You must remember that factors such as the format your songs are encoded in and how you use the player will have a serious effect on battery life - everyone knows OGG uses more battery than mp3 and if you're the sort of person who skips round tracks a lot, you'll be turning on the screen and accessing the HDD more than iff you just set the songs going and leave 'em.

Oh I see...Are you using the stock battery or one of the higher capacity ones? I am receiving a 2200mAh rated battery soon, only two months of use.

And I tend to skip every once in a while, and turn the LCD on just to see the song playing. And most of my songs are MP3, a couple M4A (although it will be re-ripped/re-converted), and a couple Oggs here and there.

But I might start using it to record some retarded conversations my friends and I have, does recording affect battery life in the same general way as playback would?

Thanks for your imput Step666, greatly appreciated! I just know the H10 is really a work in progress, but now I am more reassured that the H100/300 series are much farther along.

-Josh

I have a 2200mAh battery I put in about 4 or 5 months ago.
Admittedly, I haven't tested again since shortly after replacing the battery.

I have no idea about recording - I've never used it.

I just got done replacing my H340 with a 1700mAh Cameron Sino. So far it's great. Did a batt. test and ran a loop on an .ogg file (most of my collection is .ogg) and got 14 hrs off the first charge. I'm hoping for around 17-20 after I get the battery a little more "learned." Running Kosh's 2.9.52 build and all the battery tweaks. So far I'm stoked! My stock batt. was going down hill fast and iPods99.com had a good deal on a no mod version. I'll let you know what I get off the next few charges.
