Safety of using a plug-in usb based charger?
I am not placing this in the alternative chargers forum since only rockbox makes this worthwhile.

My player has had its power supply input busted for many moons. I get by with USB charging and I have no complaints. I recently bought a Motorola SLVR that is charged from its USB exclusively. It came with a wall charger that sends power via a USB port. The output is 5V so I am pretty sure it would work. I am just afraid of frying my player like I did when making a home-made charger awhile back. Now I have no warrantee to fall back on, so I am going to be careful here.

Any experience with this type of charger? Before I use it I want to know it is safe. I am not ready to upgrade yet.

I don't (and don't plan to) charge my H340 using a mains USB charger, but I did see this thread in the H300 forum which I think is relevant to your question. Skimming through the thread, I didn't see any definitive answer to your question, but it might give you a little more insight. It's an old thread but it has been posted to very recently.

If it is a USB charger it has the same output as charging from your computer.
I have charged my Iriver H340 with 2 different USB chargers (my dad Ipod one, and my girlfriend Ipod one). No problem at all.
It would be like wondering if I could charge through USB depending if I use a laptop or a desktop computer or this computer brand or the other.
