A Terrible Situation, PLEASE HELP

I apologize for the message that i left a week or so ago. I ask any of you to here out my situation and see if you can give me any advice. I bought this H320 off of ebay from a company called digigood, it was a good price and previously I owned and h340 so I know about em. I get the h320 and start putting 1.28 K and Rockbox and all that good stuff, songs, videos, games… I don’t rip cd’s with anything else but windows media so obviously the songs I ripped would not be recognized by rockbox, and some songs are mp3’s because I download them. So I was in the gym using rockbox to listen to songs and usually it skips over the wma files it cant read… I go to select a song and it everything freezes on the screen when it says “Loading…” it would not do anything, that night I didn’t think about the reset button so I let it stay on overnight and in the morning stuck it in the charger. Later on that day I go to turn it on and it is giving me the “Check HDD Connection”, and “Check HDD”. I’ve have used reset numerous times, it doesn’t work. I have also tried to plug the player in the computer with the usb cable, the computer does not read the player in fact it does not recognize an extra drive like the player isnt plugged in at all. I’ve taken the player apart and checked the connection so it can be none other than a defective hard drive? SO, I email the digigood company back and apparently I only got a 14 day warranty with the company however it came with a 90 day warranty towards the manufacturer. Now in my situation, can you give me any advice I may not know about the iriver, or advice on where to send the player with the warranty to be fixed. Anything at all you can give me i appreciate it very much, sincerely Haze

if you already took it apart i assume you tried taking the HDD out and back in. It also could be that the HDD failed right then. I guess you can call to find out if they could replace the player.

Well, sorry to hear about your HDD issues.

I can't help you with that, but I can help you with somethign else you mentioned: WMA files.

You said you rip everything with Windows Media, right? Well, Windows Media can rip into MP3's as well! All you need to do is go to:
Tools >Options >Rip Music

Once in the "Rip Music" section, click on the drop-down menu under "Format:"
The default is set to windows media audio (wma), but go on ahead and switch that to MP3. When you switch the format to MP3, the bottom part in that same little window will allow you to pick the rip quality (aka bitrate) of your mp3. Don't ;eave it at 128kbps (low quality), choose 192kpbs or higher. 192kbps is already near CD-quality for the majority of people, so it's good to set it there. Choose 128kbps if your priority is quantity of songs over quality. (As I said, 192 is the best trade-off between space and quality).

This doesn't solve your HDD issue, I know, but at least you can listen to all your music in rockbox now...

personally I just wouldn't use windows media player to rip cds, but anyway, it sounds like your HDD is screwed so if you can't get a replacment getting a new HDD might work.

Unhappy reset button

I have a question for you. Was the reset button a little hole where you would have stuck a pencil tip in or pin? After you press this button/hole, is there anyway you can retrieve the music if it is "cleared"
My problem is that it can't find the music, but I found all the band names, albums, song titles, but no music.

Yes, that is the reset button, but it does only one thing: it powers off the player. It does not erase or delete anything.

It probably froze because the hard drive went bad.

Lightbulb Did you pay by paypal?

Also having problems with digigood and by chance googled them. Found your cry for help plus others - see http://samsite999.blogspot.com/2006/...-digigood.html.
As you boughtfrom ebay did you use paypal as you may have recourse for a claim. As you have opened the item it is doubtful you will get your money back but may get replacement. Also check if you have orignal advert from seller as he seems to have a habit of misquoting/misrepresenting terms of warranties. May have recourse under local trading standards organisations. If paid via paypal you need to register a dispute asap. Good luck.
