Rockbox working, original firmware isn't

Hello everyone,

I've been having battery problems recently (the battery switches off when you try to do too much at the same time, like selecting another song whilst playing one), and I was wondering whether this problem I recently discovered is related to it or whether it is something else:

Rockbox is working normally (as far as it can with this battery), it loads fast enough, I'm using Norbusan's build. When charging it and disconnecting the charger before the charging is done (I sometimes have to do that), it recently started saying "Complete", which is actually not right, because it wasn't really complete. I've had this several times now. Also, when I try to boot into original firmware, it stucks on the loading screen (and it doesn't matter how long I wait), which makes me reset it and boot it into rockbox instead.

Now I'm not using the original firmware THAT much, but if it's something like the harddrive that's failing, I'd like to be aware of it, my new battery just arrived, and i was planning to put it in this afternoon, to see whether this changes anything.

Anyone had this before and can tell from my not that detailed post whether the hard drive of my H320 is going nuts or whether it's the battery that's not giving enough power or something like that?

Thanks,

Stefan

Sorry if this has been posted before, I tried a search but failed to find anything.

Luckily for you, I don't think it sounds like the drive is failing...
The iriver firmware isn't stored on the drive and can function properly with a faulty or absent drive, so any problems with that are not likely to be drive related. Having said that, long startups with the iriver firmware could be to do with the drive because IIRC it performs a check on the drive at startup, which takes ages if the drive is bad.

Thanks for that. To get it clear I'm now checking the h320 drive on errors with Windows. I hope this gives a definitive answer. I'll report back when it's done.

Unfortunately I cannot help you with your problem, but isn't the above mentioned normal ? Anyhow, I see this message too with my almost new H320, when I disconnect the charger before the actual charging is complete.

So I did the windows checkup thing and it took like 4 or 5 hours, and it said it was done after 2 phases and that's it. However le problem is not solved yet, still loading forever (I don't think it ever finishes), but am about to change the battery and maybe then I'll just re-install firmware (1.29K) and see whether that helps... Unless there's a better way to check for erros on the hard drive I assume the problem is the firmware...

So I've checked for errors with windows, replaced the battery, and still it loads and loads and loads, rockbox working fine.

Anybody got any suggestions how to get into the original firmware? I don't like it not working properly...

I'm not sure whether I should post about this here or in the H3xx forum?

have you tried re-installing the firmware yet? If you've already replaced the battery and checked for errors the next step might be to reinstall the rockbox patched firmware using 1.29K.

Post here if it solves the problem.

It could be that the settings of the original firmware are corrupted in a way that the firmware can't start.
This thread describes how to fix it:

@iriveronian: Well the iriver firmware still didn't boot within reasonable time frame (15 minutes at max), so I couldn't try, sorry!

@PaulJam: that worked! Thanks a lot... Was this rockbox bootloader conflicting with original firmware or would I have not been able to use my H320 anymore if I hadn't had rockbox to fix the settings?
