battery help! im freaking out

please help me my iriver- she's.... dying!!! no seriously she is
ok... i started using the usb charge function on rockbox
this way when i use it on the computer it doesnt lose any battery but it doesnt usually gain cause im using it on the computer
ive done this a lot and nothing happened but recently after i did it i happened to be going on a trip the next day and it had half the battery life
i usually charge it when its only discharged but supposedly it doesnt matter but i needed it full now so i charged it
the next day when it said complete i turned on rockbox and discovered it had only 74 percent -usually my iriver has like 98 percent right after a charge
it lasted for a few hours enough for my trip but i was annoyed i recharged it and today it said again 74 percent is my battery going dead or is it rockbox
if i need a new battery can someone tell me where to buy- im guessing toshiba- but i dont know how to install it is there any threads on installing a new battery- i found one on upgrading hdd
please help me my iriver is 2 years old and im not ready to let it go

If it is two years old, it is likely to need a new battery. Search for Denny's battery replacement guide for all of the information you need to know.

Before you do that, however, you might want to charge it with the charger to make sure that it is not a USB charging issue.

Funny, similar things happened with my H340 recently.
I've been both USB- and regular-charging for a while now (mostly with the charger though), and I had left it to charge overnight few weeks back.

When unplugged from the charger, the power would drop down to ~60% and go from there normally. Few days later it started to go straight down to ~30%. That's when I was starting to ALMOST worry.

But few days back I charged it for about an hour or a little bit less, it stayed over 90% for quite a while and has been working normally since.

One possible reason for it might be that over here in Finland the winter is coming and with that sub-zero temperatures. It seems like the colder it got, the less the iriver would charge. (The outside temp affects my room temp quite a bit too.) And I do most of my rivering while walking outside. Of course, my baby is always on my belt covered under a jumper and a thick winter coat.

Anyone else noticed similar temperature-issues?

The power supply port on my player is broken so I am limited to USB charging. I have about a 3/4 year old NT battery in my player so it should be decent, but I get crazy battery issues as well. It discharges really fast.

It still works though and that is all that matters.

Until Rockbox is fully functional on a gigabeat

ok sorry it took me long to get back
but at kokopelli.com they are selling ipod 1st gen 2200mah battery should i get it and use that?

and i just have to switch the polarity on the battery by either soldering the wires of my old to the new or just switch molex-right?
the wires just have to be switched
but the molex goes in the same way-right it has to...

Yes you're right about the molex. If you're not shure, have a look at the battery switching guide here in the forum. This should answer all your questions. I followed this guide and everything worked perfectly.

The battery should be ok, the quality differs from manufacturer to manufacturer, but I haven't heard anything about bad batteries.

battery replacement

if you decide to get a battery i think the most popular among h320's 340's is the ipod gen 1 gen 2 i had to get a replacement for my h340 because i stuck in the charger every night and that drains your battery overtime fast... heres the link

I've had lots of battery problems over the last 6 months, at first I figured my battery was just worn out (my player is 2 years old) but I'm starting to think that maybe it's my HDD that's getting old and using more power for spinups. It's certainly louder than it use to be.

If you can get a cheep battery replacement go for it, but don't expect it to solve all your battery life issues.
