Suggested feature: way to bookmark large mp3 files in the middle

I have no ability to actually design such a plugin, but it would be useful so I'll make the suggestion.

For anyone who listens to longer mp3 files - hour-long podcasts, for example - sometimes when you're halfway through a programme you then want to listen to something else and go back to the podcast later. But if you do that, you'll have to hunt through the podcast again to find where you were. If you don't, your player is effectively "locked" until you finish listening to the podcast.

Could someone design a plugin so that you can bookmark the middle of an mp3 file? I was thinking something like saving a file which points to wherever you were in that mp3 file (not something which changes the mp3 file). And then when you want to go back to where you are, you select that file and it goes to wherever in that larger file you were when you saved the bookmark.

Possible? Feasible? Easy enough? Anyone?

i remember this feature being fully functional back when i had archos player. its been in rocbox for a while. press and hold navi when the song is playing, then go bookmark and create it. then to retrieve it go there again and list bookmarks and it should be there.

Again I'm still learning. I didn't realise this was there. I'd always seen boolmarks, but never really thought about it. Like ozjeremy says very useful for recordings from the radio, podcasts, audio books etc.

Its probably my own fault, I downloaded the manual a while ago, but never got round to reading it. It makes me think what else i'm missing out on.

Excellent! Thanks guys - I'd been completely ignorant of this feature, and it was exactly what I'd been looking for!

You can also adjust the FF/RW speed so it gets faster and faster the longer you hold it down.

That way you can still scan accurately over small timeframes, but FF to 30min in a few seconds.
