Car Adaptor Mode

I'm hoping for a definitive answer on this. After looking at every post I can find related to this topic, it appears that 'Car Adapter Mode' doesn't really work on the H3xx (at least not the way it should). I really hope someone can tell me I'm wrong about this...

According to the Rockbox manual, in 'Car Adapter Mode' the player is paused when the car is turned off and resumed when the car is turned back on (provided you also have your Idle Poweroff setting on). Unfortunately, according to one person who's tried this using the DC jack, it doesn't work because powering on makes the player boot directly into the iRiver firmware. According to another person who's tried it using a USB charger, you need to hold the record button while plugging in the USB cable. Both scenarios make 'Car Adapter Mode' sound like it's more trouble than it's worth.

So does 'Car Adapter Mode' work properly on the H3xx (by 'properly,' I mean hands-free on-and-off playback)? Is anyone actually using it? If so, do you use the DC jack or the USB charging function? Thanks.

my sister owns a motorolla v3 and that came with an incar charger, now this charger fits not into the traditional charging port but the usb port it still charges at the same rate but it allows it to play from where i left it. its probably not the answer you where looking for if you dont have a motorolla. but good luck.

Am using car adapter mode, but with the (faulty?) car cigarette adapter I bought from Ebay. The screen just shows the USB symbol and the unit is completely inactive. I was expecting a charger that terminated not in a mini-usb, but the usual pin plug type thing-looks like nokia plug- whatever. It makes no difference if i am in car adapter mode or not. Help needed. What's wrong?
Thanks

I think dockboggs is right in that if it had switched off, reapplying power will make it boot into iriver firmware - this is due to the rockbox bootloader I believe - I understand that the next versiopn of the bootloader will allow booting straight into rockbox which will make car adapter mode as useful as it should be! I'm always prepared to be corrected though!

I have been in touch with the seller for the in-car charger I bought. As i say i expected it to terminate in the 3.5 pin type jack- knowing nothing about the usb option (RTFM opportunity....anyon e...?.)
So as above post- no joy etc. The seller has 1.not replied to my query. 2. disappeared from ebay altogether.
So are there real-working-USB-charging-rockbox-h140 people out there???????? If so, how, please
