How do you rate songs in the new tagcache database?
Hi,
I was wondering how to rate songs in the new tagcache database. Also, What is for the runtime data gathering? thanks, Ricardo |

If you have the option General Settings>File View>Tag Cache>Gather Runtime Data (experimental) set to on, Rockbox calculates an autoscore based on the average length of time a track has been listened to. So if you listened to a track right through (100%) then listened again, but skipped to the next track at 90% through, the track would have an autoscore of 95. These stats are available through the ID3 file view options Best tracks and List played tracks. Best tracks lists tracks that have been played twice or more and have an autoscore of greater than 60. List played tracks lists all tracks ever played with autoscore and playcount displayed. Also, the runtime data is not written after every song, only when the disk spins up next, so you'll need to listen/skip through a few songs until the disk spins up, then check those Best tracks and List Played options again... |

I have a problem with tagcache and I've searched and couldn't find an answer so I thought I might as well ask it here instead of starting a new thread...
I figured it would be nice to check out the tagcache thing, so I went to the tagcache menu and to "initialise now", it started running in the background, and when done it turned off... When relaunching and trying to select ANY option in the ID3 database view I get the message that starts with "Sear...". On top of that there is the error message which says "tagcache not ready". I can't view artists, tracks or anything else... Searching gives the same message after entering a search.... What am I doing wrong. I've tried initialising twice, auto update is on, and I've also tried "update now". Also, the tagcache is loaded into the RAM. I'm using the latest norbu build. Can anyone help me here? Stefan

I keep trying to get tagcache to work, and have searched around the forums for a solution, but none of them have worked for me.... I'll keep trying though coz the runtime thing storing your most played songs sounds cool!

As to the TagCache not ready messages, that has occurred to me a few times--I don't recall a pattern to it, but it has not recurred. I may have updated to a newer Rockbox build; or I think I just turned the player off and then on again 1 or more times, and had it initialize the db, and left the player alone while it did so for 10 minutes or so--the problem may have been when it was trying to build the db and I played music in the meanwhile (altho this is not supposed to affect anything). |

I have used ratings in the past (4 months ago) and it worked perfectly. I haven't tried with the latest builds.

Individual ratings are currently only possible through the autorating described above. Remember rb is a work in progress. If you want to speed up the process lend a hand. You can code or report bugs if you can't code. Just remember to follow the proper steps. And for the folks with the tagcache errors try manually updating the cache. Wait till the HDD activity stops, reset and try again. If that doesn't work get a new daily build and try again. If that doesn't work report it if it hasn't already been.

Do you know about the embedded album art bug?
I've never had embedded album art so I havn't been following its progress but I believe having any caused problems in a few places.

tried that, and it lead to the middle of an album, then i remembered that Iriver looks at WMA songs and i think RB will look for AAC. I dont have alot of eather but it would be enough to through it off. that is if RB follows the same search method as iriver (which I dout)
i managed to get the tagcash to load by turning the player off just before It reached the problem track but i still havent found the problem track

I had a problem with embedded album art, my DAP would freeze at file 325 but when I used a program to get rid off it all (which did kind of work...) initializing the tag cache would go all the way to the end and do nothing apart from say its 'Commiting tagcache (1/11)' when it boots up and then still not work??? Has anyone else had this problem, I actually created a post to ask but no-one knew what was going on! Commiting tagcache
