The reason I did the switch was due to a text alignment restriction. If I kept the volume and battery text on the second row, I wouldn't be able to get the bitrate readout on the right fifth row icon.

The alternative soloution was to keep the volume and battery text on the second row, and have a graphical tag on the problematic right fifth row icon. Options included HDD activity or CBR/VBR tag. I didn't like the HDD activity to be there, because it wouldn't be that obvious when the status changed (ie HDD ON, HDD OFF). Having a CBR or VBR readout seamed pointless to me as well without a text bitrate read out. I can't seem to find any other graphical tag that hasn't been implemented yet, and would hate to include a "dummy" icon. Any ideas?

That shouldn't be a problem. I'm not a fan of having timed alternating text. Maybe I'm a control freak.

That said, the code for alternating text is very easily applied, so it can be changed.

I'm just putting it there to be prepared for all possibilities. I don't care for ratings that much, but I want to make my WPS as complete as possible.

Only things missing are the album title, year and genre. I can live without them.


Other than that, what do you think of the new volume and battery meters? It's supposed to be more "Knight Rider" accurate. Comments, suggestions, rants, all welcome!

I might be wrong but if you do what you wrote, i think you will experiment the same ones. If you have questions, i will be glad to help...

@iPood This may be the answer to your prayers. To keep the volume and battery meters on the first row, we need to remove the bitrate read out and replace it with a graphical tag. I can live without the bitrate read out, only I couldn't find a graphical tag to put in its place. That was until now... We can add the EQ tag (only showing if it was on or off).

Hello Ashen! Thanks for posting. To be honest my current WPS development has been purely graphical. I haven't touched the code at all yet. I haven't even tested your WPS either. Once I'm done with my design and actually work on implementing it, I'll have a look at what's in your code and find out if the problem is fixable.

I'm crossing my fingers all of this will work!

I have a problem with double posting.

@ashen I was just testing the UniCatcher WPS which also uses Unifont. Now it has scrolling enabled, and it works fine even with hold switch activated.

So could this mean that there's a problem with the hold key conditionals and scrolling? (obviously that's what you've been trying to say )

Sorry to be a pain in the a** but i like to see the bitrate so would prefer to keep it the way you had in X1 and X2 The idea of activiating the hold switch to show next artist info is cool but you have to worry about it breaking with all the toggling....

hehehehe... No problemo man. Just trying to cater to everyone's needs File type on the left and bitrate on the right keeps it clean. Albeit we'll have to settle with the volume and battery meters on the second row.

Are our precious H300s that poorly built? I always found the hold switch to be rather sturdy! Will have to find out if the hold trick won't interfer with text scrolling first (as Ashen noted) before I decide on going in that direction.

I take it you're ok with the volume and battery meters in X1 and X2?

Well to add the background to the design you like, I will need to use the narrower icons which are used in X1 and X2:


The icons in the design you like are too wide to squeeze the background in. If I'm not mistaking, you prefer having three lines of ID3 info (Current Artist, Current Title, Next Artist - Next Title), rather than just 2 lines with current artist and current track. I only used the narrow icons with the 2 line ID3 info designs. If that's the problem you have with the narrow icons, I can squeeze the 3 line ID3 info layout with the narrow icons, to make space for the background.

Long answer, it won't be very soon First of all, I want to finish development of the design I will use personally, something close to X1 and X2, most likely a hybrid if things work well. Second, In the near future (one month or less!) I'll be returning back home perminantly after many many years abroad. Soon afterwards, our second child will join us So as you can see, I have a lot going on for me at the moment, and I really shouldn't have been spending this much time designing these updates But as the title says, I've become a WPS addict Maybe my WPS will be ready in time for RB V3.0 But don't worry, I will definately finish this!

Actually, I appreciate everyone's criticism/support! You guys are interested in my WPS, and if you like some of the things you see (with some minor changes) I'll be more than glad to provide a version you like!

Actually if you made that HDD logo your self, I think your graphical skills are much better than mine

So...
1) you like the LEDs (will only be functional for cross fade, repeat, shuffle, lock, and EQ, the rest will just be dummy green LEDs that never change)
2) You want 3 rows of ID3 info
3) You want KITT's voice box bacground.
4) You like the idea of the Knight logo for HDD icon

Question:
Which battery and volume meters do you like? There are three different designs at the momen. The one in the original D3 and D4 designs, The one that looks like a staircase. The one with "V" and "B".

The reason i'm concerned is because there have been a number of threads about the hold button getting broken:

Yep i prefer this version compared to the other two but would prefer the "B" to be to the left of the bars rather than the right. Whatever you decide to go with is cool by me, just have to do some mods which i normally do with all WPSs anyway

whoa! That's some scary stuff. Could it be that all those people are flicking it too strongly (no pun intended), or that they're flicking it in a wrong angle? (really what other word could I use )

Actually come to think of it the "staircase" volume meter would be better because i don't like how the volume meter drops at the end with the X design (when really it shouldn't). Keep the battery meter as it is but with the "B" on the left so both the "B" and the "V" are to the left of the meters.
