Hi I am hoping that someone might be able to help me out here. I cannot load RB anymore on my H320. It just goes to FW 1.29K. The problem started when I removed the FW 1.30 and loaded a recent RB file when the firmware patch would at first recognize my HEX file. Then when I tested it again, the file was unrecognized. Am I supposed to restart H320 with a new sequence of button pushing? Or reflash, which is something I don't remember how to do.

Natchie, please stop posting this same question in multiple threads. As I explained in response to your PM, you need to describe EXACTLY what happens when you boot the player. The reason you are not getting answers is because you are not providing enough useful information to allow us to diagnose your problem.

OK Febs...I will try to describe EXACTLYwhat happens:

With my H320 connected to the computer through USB, I use Rockbox Firmware patcher. Clicked on Browse and selected H300.hex file (4,091 KB) on my computer download folder. If it was a freshly downloaded file, I get a Success Message: Firmware patched successfully.

I transferred the hex file over to my H320, dropping it at top of folder.

I safely disconnected the H320 from the USB and turned it off. Turning it on, I only get the FW and not the RB. Currently I am using 1.29 J as the link to 1.29K does not lead to the advertised FW on its Korean language iRiver page.

I have already downloaded and installed the RB version provided by Norbusan, the latest file.

You have patched the firmware but you haven't flashed your player with it. You need to boot into iRiver firmware once, even after the firmware has been patched with the bootloader. From the Rockbox installation instructions:

Quote:
Before proceeding further, make sure that your player has a full charge, or that it is connected to the power adaptor.

* Step 10. Update your jukebox's firmware with the patched bootloader. To do this, turn the jukebox on. Press and hold the joystick button to enter the main menu, and navigate to General --> Firmware Upgrade. Select "yes" when asked to confirm if you want to upgrade the firmware. The jukebox will display a message indicating that the firmware update is in progress. Do not interrupt this process. When the firmware update is complete, the player will turn itself off. (The update firmware process usually takes a minute or so.)
Then you also have to get yourself a Rockbox build and put it on your player. That way, the next time you turn it on, the bootloader will find the Rockbox files and you'll be all set.

Digitalboy, thanks for answering.
I flashed the player with the firmware upgraded and watch the player turned off. I then removed the RB folders and downloaded the new Kosh's build 2.7.1 and installed it on the player. When I rebooted the player, the FW came on. I flashed it one more time and turned it off. Once on, again, the player only loaded up with FW. Am I missing a step somewhere in the process?

Talking Finally, PAH~!

Thanks to those who gave me suggestions. The HEX file was successfully patched and showed a little yellow icon, whereas before it never had that. Now I need to download the Font file as the daily build from RB website did not include the FONT file.

May ask Febs or anyone else to report what i wrote above to the Rockbox site. (I can't actually do it by myself because i'm not registered on rockbox.org). That could be helpful. Seems to me that this bug has not been fixed. And, yesterday, i saw that there were discussions about that on the tracker, here.

* EDIT : Problem definitively fixed, some weeks ago.

Hi folks,

this question has already been asked quite a number of times in this thread and I have been here before myself, but my principal question hasn't been answered yet, so here I go again: I'm refering to the [how-to] guides at the very beginning of this thread, in particular the battery-usage-minimization guide which reads:

- run the Stats plugin and record the two figures it gives you. These are counts of directories and files on your player.
- General settings/System/Limits, enter roughly the two figures given by the stats plugin.
- shutdown and restart the player. (important!)

Now, the stats plugin is easy enough to find and run. It gives me two figures: One relatively small (directories), the other one huge (total number of files). In "General settings > system > limits", I can only enter one number. So which one should it be? As the default for that figure is 400 and the number of files I currently have on my iriver is about 5300, I'm a wee bit worried because if I understand the point of the whole thing correctly, the filenames have to be saved to RAM in order to not have to spin up the disk for browsing? Surely that would limit the amound of RAM available for other features like the skip buffer and games (as you can play and listen to music simultaneously, I do that quite a lot).
Could you give me any further advice or tips concerning this issue?
Thanks!
Greetings,

whatchamacallit

Switching between builds

Hi,
I read somewhere about changing from one exp. build to another whilst using rockbox. I have tried searching the forums but cannot find the post!
Please remind me of how to do this and it could possibly be added to the 'How Tos', i think.

Thanks
