Not much really. Just make sure you have a pin handy for those occasional resets. The latest bootloader (v5) is actually (in effect) safer than the iriver firmware. The riskiest thing is loading the bootloader. Once that's done there's not much that could brick your player; most problems just cause RB to freeze, hence having a pin handy!

At the moment, it does drain your battery pretty quick, but that's being worked on and not actually damaging to your player (apart from using up a few more charge cycles).

Just watch out for the evil calculator plugin ! On mine it always freezes, yet I never learn and continue to constantly load it!

EDIT: Yey! Post number 100!

I have found a few bits that render the screen blank (the 'jpeg' plugin for example)..
But nothing that will harm the unit in any way. And as DD mentioned.. The reset sorts it out.

That's the voltage of the battery, a.k.a. how charged it is. You will see it going down as you use your player, until you recharge it.

I take it you took the plunge then . You liking it?

Thats the battery voltage
Try plugging in your AC adaptor while booting and it will get to ~4v :P

Now for all the important and nosey questions...

-What WPS are you using? I recommend engineeer2_mod (use 6x13 font).
-Are you using the h300 optimized build?
-Have you had to reset yet?
-Are you using the colour-changer patch (and what colours are you using)?

^-^; I havent reset. It's REALLY GOOD. Yea, also, Im using the H300 optimized build, it seems more popular, plus, someone said it had less bugs?
The WPS. I havent changed anything, but I have the color as purple (just to check, I dont really like purple though {just clicked randomly}).
Thanks for the replies + help.

Glad you're enjoying it. Btw, if you already haven't found out how to do it...

-To add a file to the playlist, hold down NAVI and select Playlist.
-To call up the playlist/edit it. Hold down NAVI while playing music and select Playlist.

You probably found that ages ago but no-one deserves to use rockbox without knowing how to do playlists-on-the-go!

As a general rule, holding down NAVI will give you more options.

It's probably not playing some of your songs because they are in .WMA format. You can either convert them to another format or rip them again from CD. At the present time Rockbox does not have plans to provide a WMA CODEC.

I'm a new RB user (30 minutes and counting!) and I have a couple open questions as well:

- Are there any plans to more fully integrate more standardized extensions? I understand that the primary purpous of RB is to enhance the music-listening experiance for all, but let's face it, plug-ins rock!

- Are there ever any plans to completely do without the stock iRiver firmware? From simply a logic standpoint, it seems that it would be useful to be able to flash all of RB into the EEPROM. Of course, this would de-simplify updating RB with daily builds and bleeding edges, but would likely provide for a faster UI.

I just want to end by saying thanks to Linus, the RockBox team, and all the devs here at MR. You guys are awesome!

I agree that fully replacing the stock iriver firmware would be nice, at this present time, I have not really used the iriver firmware for a long while, apart from the odd video but I really never use it.

I think that after some more development and stabilising it a little more then it would be very nice as a primary OS and run alot better in the EEPROM, however I'm not sure how easy this would be for the devs.

does anyone have an idea when the optimized build will become part of the normal rockbox builds?

If it ran from the EEPROM wouldn't you have to flash every time to install the daily updates, at least when the files are stored in the hard drive you just extract the rockbox files, a lot safer than flashing for every new build.

It's possible for a few players right now, it's only with the stable and released versions

I don't think I would be too comfortable with constantly flashing because if you do it everyday, one time somethings bound to go wrong you end up bricking your player. Perhaps with this rumoured GUI overhaul it may be a must, but for now I like it how it is...

Once the bootloader is installed, you can breathe safely!

talking about jpegs, u said the jpeg plugin clogs ur player. on mine it doesnt: in the file tree i just select a pic, play it and it says it wont work, but then everything's all rite and i can just go on with what i was doing..

-i dont like engineeer...i rather use paul something 2.1.1
-yep
-lots of tons of time more less. its cos of selectin to view id3 tag files instead of supported or all. and sometimes some plugins
-yeah thats great. i tried it when -san first made it and it didnt save the changes yet. now i use black bg and light text, like aqua, lime or orange.

Please Xplain...
i'll do it so i'll have done everything in this thread so far:h300 optimized build is the same build u can find on RB site, plus all the plugins (such as color changer) that people around have written and that are not on RB site yet. its good, so u dont have to look up yourself for new plugins. someone other will do this for u, thats the philosophy of 3rd millenium.
color changer, as u might have understood, is an option in the menu (display) thanks to which u can change colors of background an text, instead of the stock RB ones. its cool, and i think that setting the bg to black u can even spare energy, since,as they said, rb dranis much energy so far.

Well i just installed Rockbox the other day and i have noticed some glaring problems.

It only plays about 20% of my music files, whereas the iRiver firmware plays them all. I dont know how to fix it but would love to as i like Rockbox a hell of a lot more than the iRiver firmware.

Is there any solutions?

Will it play wma in future versions?

Can I change wma files to mp3?

Doesnt the fact that Rockbox cant play wma negate one of the most positive aspects of the H340, ie that it can play for music types than the iPod??
