I WOULD WANT A BETTER RANDOM SHUFFLE!

It seems that the shuffle feature will always take the same path

For example if you start on song A and hit next to song B then go previous back to song A

shutdown the player

start playing track A again, and skip to next track it will be B. That is horrible random number generation

I dont know how many computer science people are out there, but now that the korean firmware supports theclock function again, a simple seed using the time to their random number generator would solve this.

If you turn the shuffle off, then back on, it re-shuffles the playlist.

Or you can simply use the reshuffle option.

Are you talking about Rockbox or the original firmware? Rockbox does not have this issue, and the original firmware (allegedly) solved it in versions 1.04/1.29.

Rockbox shuffles the playlist. The songs are then played in this shuffled order, you can skip back and forth in the shuffled playlist. It can even resume and remember the shuffled order.

The key word here is "shuffled".

And no, you do not need a real time clock to get a decent random generator seed value.

I think I have posted in here already, but my #1 thing right now is US FW support...but that seems to be the most difficult item ever because of DRM

I seriously doubt we'll ever see DRM support in RockBox for a number of reasons. Not that I care either way.

Video support. In particular, if it was implemented in a modular, codec-agnostic way. You know, an mpeg decoder and a DivX decoder and a qt decoder and (what the hell) a realvideo decoder... Many of those codecs are available GPL'ed in the mplayer project. We'd probably need to experiment with what frame rates would yield decent, realtime playback--but I bet it'd be better than 10fps!

Obviously, the H3xx is the only device Rockbox supports that could really do video, so it's pretty nichey. If that is, in fact, a word.

Any reason why we cant fade in/out the backlight of the H300s yet? (a hardware reason, i know it hasnt been coded yet :P )

The code already exists, i think it just needs to be modified a little so it works with the 300.

(Not really a request just a thought that didnt need a whole new thread)

EDIT: Im compiling a build right now that is supposed to allow H300 fading... 1% chance of it working though because it took me 3 minutes and i dont know much about this lowwer level stuff. lol

Album art would be wicked. Once we have colour bitmap support in the WPS, I think (but I don't really have a clue) it would be fairly approximatly ok to implement (but knowing my luck it would be much more complicated and buggy ) by using something along the lines of...

Code:
%x|Y|../%d4/%d3/%d2/%d1/albumart.bmp|x|y|
...or you could just make a special folder for album art...

Code:
%x|Y|/albumart/%id.bmp|x|y|
...please correct me about the "../" bit to come out of the .rockbox directory into the root.

(or they could just be kind and add an album art tag to the WPS system )

That's untrue, DD.

It is unlikely, yes. But the possibility remains that someone may pick the WMA project up and run with it.

It won't be an easy task, but to say it will *never* happen is a little misinformative

Ok, edited . I thought there were all the licensing issues which would make it a risky thing to try. If it did happen, I doubt it would be included in the builds though and instead be a patch, for that same reason.

BTW, was I roughly along the right lines with my WPS code stuff, or was I completely out?
