What would be a great feature?

Well, I was thinkin that we all love otfs and gapless and video, so we don't really care about that that much at this point, especially since we already have it. I was thinkin that it would be great if we had some like backgroung thing running that if you had your player playin songs, it would create a playlist of those songs, if you wanted it to, when you turned your iRiver off. What do you guys think?

Any other (reasonable) ideas?

Actually, there's a partially finished (and probably horribly buggy) runtime generated database of song popularity already on the player.
It's kinda stagnated the last few months, so resurrecting it is something that can be done for anyone looking to get their hands dirty.

It's only a short step from there for identifying and creating playlists from 'most popular overall', 'most popular by genre', etc. (relatively)

That sounds interesting, do you have a link to a website with docs/src? I was just going to sit around all holidays, but this seems like a better use of my time.

The source is actually already in CVS. you can try enabling it, but it's likely to explode in an entertaingly fatal way requiring a reset or something

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie...untimeDatabase contains details about the proposed database implementation. It's tied fairly closely to the tag database as well, so that'll need some work too, probably.

A function I think would be pretty cool, (well function might be a strong word for this, more a feature)... Anyway, it'd be that say if you're playing bejeweled or Snake or whatever, that the LCD remote still shows the RWPS and allows volume adjusting and playback controls. I realise it might be impossible however seeing as how the two are linked.

What would be cool? The database with support for AUDIOSCROBBLER!
this would be the coolest thing EVER!

wait - maybe we don't need a database for that- what about a plugin just writing the names of played songs down and then a small script submitting those to audioscrobbler?

that would be incredibly complicated A

as far as that audio scrabler thing goes, that sounds about like what I was looking for. Pictures and Music are always nice, but I doubt I would...No, I would use it

Do we have Music and Games yet? (I haven't flashed, but am looking forward to it when it's ready)

A little bit better games, the games that come with it are pretty straight, but not as addicting as that Parachute game on ipoo, so better games.

And i would love to see some more playlist options, like: create blank playlist, create new playlist with "this" song as the only song in it, so it would be easier to create OTF playlists, and an option to keep it from creating the playlist with the songs in the directory.

Also a button to hit that just cuts on the LCD, and doesnt do anything, for now i use volume down, then hit volume up when it comes on, but im on habit of using the NAVI button, and it goes to the file tree menu

HD Space? that should be the least of the worries. A voice recognition program would have to be written (would that even be able to run onthe Coldfire processor, I don't know), along with a database to be matched against the said song names.
I'd say the chances are pretty slim, but what do I know?

i think it might actually be able to be done but it would probably take more time than it was worth. alot of mobile phones (my old nokia 3310 had it) have a similar function for the phone book.ect but you have to make a recording for each number. i would think that if a nokia 3315 can have a similar function the coldfire would be able to handle it.

(i assume that if you did it with a DAP you would have to make a voice recording for each song) which considering the ammount of music you can fit on a 20gig DAP would probably be more of a pain in the arse than it it worth. you would also either have to have the external mike always out or take the player out every time you used it.

It would be cool if there was a buttoncombination (maybe play + >>) to skip the next track by changing the playlistposition of the current with the next track.

the voice recognition would probably be most useful if you did it by artist, folder, genre, album, or playlist...playlist being the most efficient. You would think that since a phone can do it, maybe we could 'borrow' the phone coding and figure out what needs to be altered. The program can't be too big if it fits on a phone, I mean most have like 8mB flash and that's it.

It may also be applicable to use it instead of using the buttons.

A great feature would, of course, be proper use of the color screen, but we must only dream so long for that, fortunately.

A program that allows you to create your own menu and interface would be nice, once Rockbox is released. It would be like creating a dvd menu and you could whatever graphics or icons that you wanted, and customise how the menu is set up.

audio scrobbler seems to be what we all want. A customizable GUI is always nice, but I think once we get color, it will be more of a reality

the phone i was talking about had probably less than 1 mb of memory (numbers had to be stored on the sim card and not in the phone memory) and it came out 7 or 8 years ago so im thinking it would be no problem for the h300's coldfire processor

How about a real simple feature that i find is sorely missing...

When the screen blanks out I would like to press a key to just view the screen without any other activity. This way I can see what is playing at a glance. So far the only thing that seems to work is the lock button.
