Is there a way of letting it accept more than 1 bit BMPs so we could create graphical interfaces rather than rely on prog colours? (which obviously has this undesirable effect on the likes of Rockboy).

Edit: Oh and before anyone goes off on one at me about talking interface... I know there are more important issues to look into first... and no, I can't do this myself as I don't have the skill. I'm just another interested observer.

Thanks for the link! I was wondering where the post was, cause I've been watching the RB forums closely and didn't see any modded screens. when I read the title of Pi's thread I thought it was just a holiday greeting post!

I think it's cool for now to be able to change the colors. You can really make some wacky changes. The green and red really hurts the eyes If you don't use plug-ins that often, and would like "some" colors, this a cool start. The RB blue is too close to white (and looks as if it's white from an angle) so you don't really notice that it's in color.

However, please do be carefull when attempting to compile your own build

I've merged the two threads, but left the more descriptive title of the more recent thread.

Just like Pi mentioned in the other thread, this in fact is the same guide I used to compile my own patched build:

Simple Guide to Compiling

Very usefull link. It looks difficult at first, but after you've done it once or twice, it becomes easy.

Give it a go (at your own risk of course)

This is cool!! I'm running an orange background now. Looks excellent.

My orange setting is (255, 153, 0)... and leave the rest 'as is' for the other colors. This makes the highilighting color a royal blue.

Here is my dump. It's just showing the orange background with the blue highlighting.

Redshack, which RGB value did you change?

Did you only change the "Rockbox Blue" to orange?

Did you define the blue RGB values anywhere for the bar to appear like that, or did it just turn out that way?

I ONLY changed the 'blue' value. Like this:

#define LCD_BLACK LCD_RGBPACK(0, 0, 0)
#define LCD_DARKGRAY LCD_RGBPACK(85, 85, 85)
#define LCD_LIGHTGRAY LCD_RGBPACK(170, 170, 170)
#define LCD_WHITE LCD_RGBPACK(255, 255, 255)
#define LCD_DEFAULT_FG LCD_BLACK
#define LCD_DEFAULT_BG LCD_RGBPACK(255, 153, 0) /* rockbox blue is 182, 198, 229 */

The royal blue is just an inverse of the orange, which is all the highlight color is.

Thanks Redshack

I'd like to figure out a way to understand what defines the color of the highlight bar, and the text within it. If I'm not mistaking, I think the highlight bar is the inverse of the background color, and the text inside is the inverse of the foreground color.

@Zak
Some of the colors within plug-ins are defined by the plug-in, so these are unchanged when modding lcd.h. However, I beleive some other colors in plug-ins use the same color values in lcd.h

For example, I changed the background to black, and the foreground to blue. When I open bejeweled, the jewls aren't affected, because I assume their colors are defined in the plug-ing itself. On the right, there's the menu with the score. Usually this would be black text, on a Rockbox blue background. However with my custom colors, it shows up all in black. Which means that the color of the text is defined in the plug-in, but the background uses the system background (in my case changed to black).

I think your assumptions of the BG and FG colors are correct saab.

@reddshack
Yeah, the guys in the RB IRC channel confirmed this. See this setting didn't workout too well for me. As you can see from my screendump, I have a black background, and blue foreground. The inverse of which would be white for the highlight bar, and yellow for the highlighted text. Not very clear. I was hoping that the code which defined these values was something like (note I no nothing about programing, and this is NOT from any of the actuall rockbox files):
Code:
#define HIGHLIGHT_BAR LCD_DEFAULT_BG INVERSE (resulting in white)
#define HIGHLIGHTED_TEXT LCD_DEFAULT_FG INVERSE (resulting in yellow)
If that was how it was defined, I could do this change:
Code:
#define HIGHLIGHT_BAR LCD_DEFAULT_FG (which is blue)
#define HIGHLIGHTED_TEXT LCD_DEFAULT_BG (which is black)
Instead, I beleive it's defined simply like this:
Code:
#define CURRENT_SELECTION COLOR_INVERSE
Or something to that effect...

To remedy this unwanted result, I resorted to using the arrow selection instead. So now, I have a small blue triangler arrow to the left of the current selection.

When you think about it, it should be very possible that a code doing just what I said above can be created. Because already, we have two options of how the selection is displayed, why not a third?

Honestly though I don't know one bit of programming, or how color will end up implemented in Rockbox. All I know is that I'm sure it will be great. I'm quite happy with what I have right now! It's nice to have at least some color in the WPS.

there is no code for the invered colors...but

THERE SHOULD...

Linus, we beg of you please add a small code that will load the colors from
variables (that obviously could be changed dynamicaly...
)
this would be pimp'n because
then we could add "color themes" and everybody like "color themes"!!!!
