SOURCES OF INFORMATION ON THE ROCKBOX SITE

Set forth below are links to the pages in the Rockbox wiki where you can find information about Rockbox, including information about installing and using Rockbox on your iriver player. Before starting a new thread in the H300 Rockbox Forum, please browse through this post to see if information is readily available that will answer your question. In particular, please read the H300 Rockbox FAQ Section. If you cannot find an answer to your question, then please feel free to ask!

Note: the wiki pages are constantly being changed and updated. The word in red next to each link below is the "WikiWord" for that page. Rockbox Manual - The Draft Manual for Rockbox 3.0 (Updated Daily)
In preparation for release of Rockbox 3.0 on May 1, 2006, a project is underway to update the Rockbox manual. We are using a document assembly program called LaTex, which allows us to build a separate manual for each supported Rockbox platform. This is a work in progress. However, when it is finished it will be completely customized for the iriver's buttons and features. Like Rockbox itself, there is a daily build of the manual containing the changes from the prior day.

WikiManual - An online version of the Rockbox manual.
An online manual for Rockbox with information about installing and using Rockbox. Unlike the current hard-copy RockboxManual (see below) which was written for the Archos and describes the Archos button assignments, the WikiManual includes information on the proper buttons for using Rockbox on iriver.

QuickStart - Quick start instructions for getting started with Rockbox.
This page contains some basic information on how to get running with Rockbox quickly. It is not as thorough or as detailed as the WikiManual or the ManualRockboxInstall pages, but it does provide a chart showing the various button assignments that show you how to get around in Rockbox.

GeneralFAQ - Frequently Asked Questions about the Rockbox project.
This FAQ page is for questions that apply to all versions of Rockbox, about what Rockbox is and how to get involved in the project. There are also answers here to questions about Rockbox operation that apply across all supported platforms.

IriverFAQ - Frequently Asked Questions specific to Rockbox for iriver.
This FAQ page is for questions that are specific to Rockbox for the iriver line of players. It includes a section of Frequently Asked Questions regarding Rockbox for the H300 series.

FeatureComparison - Comparison of Rockbox and iriver firmware
This page has a chart comparing iriver's H100 firmware to Rockbox. This page needs to be updated to include a comparison for the H300 series, but this page is a good resource for anyone asking, "What advantages does Rockbox have over the iriver firmware?"ButtonAssignments - Button assignments chart.
Charts showing the button assignments for Rockbox on all supported players, including iriver. If you do use the hardcopy of the Rockbox Manual, these charts will help you convert the buttons referenced in the manual to the iriver player.

CustomWPS - Instructions for creating a "While Playing Screen."
Rockbox allows users to customize their While Playing Screen, which is known in Rockbox as the "WPS." This page shows you how.

WPSGallery - WPS Gallery
If you don't want to take the time to creat your own WPS, this page contains a gallery of WPS screens created by other Rockbox users.

IriverBoot - Information about the Rockbox bootloader.
This page contains information about the Rockbox bootloader. This is a technical page with information for developers, and is probably not of interest to the ordinary user.

All of the above pages are wikis, which means that they can be updated by anyone who registers on the Rockbox page. Official H100 Series Rockbox Progress Thread - This is an ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY thread. If you have an announcement, post it here. If you want to discuss Rockbox or discuss the announcement, use another thread.

Official H300 Series Rockbox Progress Thread - This is also an ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY thread.

Completed Rockbox WPS Thread - This is an ANNOUNCEMENT ONLY thread for posting custom WPS screens and code. This is the Mistic River equivalent of the WpsGallery wiki page.

Rockbox H100 Series Lounge and Rockbox H300 Series Lounge. Before this forum was created for Rockbox discussion, these two long threads were used for discussion about Rockbox on the H100 and H300 series respectively. Now that there is an entire forum for Rockbox, these individual threads are less active, but still being used. Discussion is permitted in these threads.

H300 owners--this is a thread I created for H100 series Rockbox users. Just about everything in it should be applicable to H300 series Rockbox. Just realize that when the documentation talks about pushing "PLAY," it is referring to the NAVI button. (The PLAY button = "ON" in Rockbox.) Likewise, if parts of the documentation refer to clicking or holding the joystick on the H100, the equivalent button on the H300 series is the NAVI button.

Edit (31 March 2006): When the Rockbox Manual v3.0 is finished, it will contain accurate button information for each supported platform.
