patching the firmware on osx/linux?

hello forum, i'm installing rockbox for the first time on my iHP-140 and running into trouble
I've tried the automatic install utility program rbutilqt, but it crashes for me every time - following the steps of the manual install i get stuck on patching the firmware as the "fwpatcher.exe" is a windows app and i'm on a mac
i'm trying it with the latest firmware (1.66E) is there a specific version i should be using that'll work with the automatic utility?

has anyone had any success installing rockbox on iHP-1xx from a mac?

sah-weet! my box is now rocking...
got the .exe to run under darwine

if anyone else has problems installing rockbox under osx here's what worked for me

download the rockbox fonts and rockbox for ihp1xx .zip files:
http://download.rockbox.org/daily/h120/rockbox-h120.zip
http://download.rockbox.org/daily/fo...kbox-fonts.zip

drag them over to the IHP100 disk as it appears on the desktop, i found it easier to then use the terminal to extract them:
"cd /Volumes/IHP100\ 1"
"unzip rockbox-h120.zip"
"unzip rockbox-fonts.zip"

then for the patch of the firmware, download from iriver site the ihp_120.hex firmware
http://www.iriver.com/html/admin/etc...WNLOAD_UP_PATH

and the firmware patcher program from rockbox
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/pub/Mai.../fwpatcher.exe

installing x11 off the install disk for osx (10.4 for me...)
How to install X11 in OS X - Simplehelp

installing darwine
http://scottdangel.com/files/Darwine0.9.42.dmg

then drag the fwpatcher.exe onto the WineHelper.app and after a while it'll pop up a dialogue to choose the firmware file - point it at the .hex and voila!

drag the patched .hex onto your IHP100 drive and you're done

hope that saves someone the four hours it cost me!

This worked perfectly for me, thanks!

As a side-note, X11 is installed by default on Mac OS X v10.5+ Leopard

i use suse linux, and used an emulator, like you, which allowed me to use fwpatcher.exe fine. i can't wait for the day when more programs are release for linux, though linux now does everything i need without any crashes like windows...

I think RBUtil works fine in Linux and can patch the firmware.
