welcome to misticriver flameofdarkness
as for the car charger option: from memory it has something to do with protecting the player from a surge as you turn the car on... although the manual should be useful. rich

thanks for your info ,rich!
i've got a battery box with 4 rechargable batteries,it's very good except for a tiny problem:when connected, the main player would be charging .maybe i should ignore it...

Just saw in the paper this morning: APC makes a "Mobile Power Pack". The ad says it weighs less than than 3 ounces and the connection is via USB. "Gives you anywhere from 2 to 4 times normal runtime, depending on the device..." Their model number is UBP10. I haven't used one of these myself, so I can't say for sure how well it will work with an H1xx, but you might want to check it out. Oh, retail is $69.99.

I've seen a number of these types of devices and while they look very interesting to a techgeek like me, I keep on concluding that my inexpensive external 4-AA battery case does the same thing when used with rechargeable batteries--plus I have the option of switching in new batteries on the fly.

Mike, I fully agree. Let's look at the price of 70$: If the pack contains NiCd or NiMH cells, it is way too expensive. But if it contains LiPo's, it will be not usable for the iriver because it is either a single cell, 3.7-4.1V, not enough to power the iriver through the power connector, or dual cell, 7.7-8.1V fully charged, then it will blow the iriver.

Since questions were raised, I went to APC's site to find out more. What I found: uses a Lithium Polymer batter, output power: 8 Watts max continuous, 10 Watts peak, output voltage: 5V. It provides power through its own USB port via USB charging cables and they suggest you use APC's cables.
Again, I've never used this and have no vested interest in it. Just wanted to add more information, since its capabilities/features were unclear. |

ive seen similar packs such as you guys mention on ebay,.. although i agree with mike its much cheaper and easier with a home built pack. the combined cos of mine with the batteries was a nice £10 (at maplins)
