What's the biggest available drive for a H120?

I've just waded through a mass of posts and I'm none the wiser: can someone tell me what the biggest available drive is that will fit in an H120?

Thanks

40Gb.

There are two sizes of drives - single and dual platter drives.

The 20 and 30Gb drives and the new 40Gb drives are single platter (their part number will end GAL).
The old 40Gb drives and the 60 and 80Gb drives are dual platter (their part numbers end GAH).

There is a FAQ on this you know...

Thanks for the info, but I'm still not clear: the FAQ says the 40GB version is not (yet) available - but you said 40GB was the largest available drive. Has the 40GB just recently become available?

Yeah, fairly recently.

Well, it's been released anyway - getting ahold of it is another matter entirely.

Okay, I'll go hunt the MK4007GAL then. Released but difficult to find? Maybe the whole load got snapped up...

Quite possibly - but there isn't a 40Gb iPod out just now, so we don't know who by.

Can't find any anywhere

Call me cynical, but I reckon it's against the interest of anyone who produces MP3 players if Joe Public upgrades his storage capacity rather than buys a new player.

As the situation exists now, and has for quite a while, the highest capacity readily accessible is the 30GB MK3006GAL (available for just over $100 at several of the retailers listed in the FAQ that Step linked you to)

Really available are the 20 and 30GB drives, the 40 had been announced a long time before, but it never showed up in any shops. But if you want to upgrade to 60 or 80GB, you have got another option: Buy a defective H140, you will need the case only. Transfer the complete electronics from the H120 to the H140 case, and you will have that additional 3mm space needed for the 60 and 80G drives suitable for H140 machines. And if it turns out that the H140 you bought has a defective hard drive only, which was the case with my 140, you will need to buy a new drive only, and you will have two working machines.

Not that the 80g drive that can fit H140s is any more apparent or available than the 40gs for H120s, but yes.

Talking

If you are good in japanese - 40g and 80g new 1.8 hdd are available in several japanese online shops - I didn't found one with English service unfortunately. Example:

http://www.bless.co.jp

Just type mk4007gal into the search window and you'll have the list... If you manage to order - take one for me too
