Question Having trouble patching...

Hi, it's me again. I am trying to put rockbox on my h140 but I'm stuck at the first hurdle. I've downloaded the Rockbox firmware patcher and the firmware version (166 US) both onto my desktop but when I try to patch them, it fails, saying "Could not open patched firmware for checksum check." What am I doing wrong? I have V166 firmware on my h140. I have had a look in the manuals and they say that if I see the above failure message I should stop trying to put Rockbox on the thing and get in touch with you guys first. Answers on a postcard, please!

Actually dude, you nailed it! I had unzipped it but had'nt dragged the unzipped file back to the desktop (it makes sense in my brain I just can't explain anything in computer speak! Shit, just ask my web programmer...what a nightmare that was!), so I think I'm cool and the gang. Thanks a lot man! By the way, is this rockbox the bomb like it's made out to be? Do you have it on your machine? Nice one andrew, ta for your time!

I have it on both my H320 and my 5G iPod and have not booted to original firmware in months.

It suits my needs

Hey Andrew, you still there? OK, all is well, Rockbox well and truly alive and kicking. Is it customizable? If so, how do I do it? Can you give me any pointers?

DOWNLOAD AND READ THE ROCKBOX MANUAL for your player--it really is really helpful.

Psychedelick, if there is anything in the world that is customizable, then it is Rockbox. It is more customizable than anything that I have seen before during the long 47 years of my life. Imagine a big black piano, with a little switch. You switch the switch, and 'plonggg', the piano turns into a trumpet. Or a Ferrari. Or a can of worms That's Rockbox. My hint: Reading the manual you will be overwhelmed by the features. Don't try all at the same time. Just do some minor tweaks - or enable the TagCache. Because if you upgrade to a newer version, you will always have to save the current config and load it after the upgrade. Especially the WPS screen is highly customazible. But I think that fancy WPS screens with a lot of dynamic contents (permanently updating the LCD screen) will draw more battery power than others.
