I dug through the code yesterday for the first time to see if I could possibly do this myself. The current plugin api doesn't have methods for getting data from the mic or line in. I'm pretty sure these functins would have to be added to the api. I might look into it a little more and see what I can fix up, but I can't make any promises since I'm in school, and summer classes can be a b*tch. I play guitar myself, and I'd like make a plugin with a tuner, scale viewer, and tab browser/editor so you can make tabs, or upload them from your computer and view them.

again, no promises.

seems like with all the discussion I've seen somebody should be working on this already. In case I do get anywhere though, do you have any suggestions?

Hi there! I'm interested in this project too. I just bought an H120, even though I will not have it with me for a while(next month). Even so, I will start looking into the code, I don't want a tuner but the functions to get information from line in and mic would be awesome, even though I suppose there is an implementation because rockbox can record.

Apparently all of the recording implementation is done in the lower level operating system, as opposed to the application (gui and such). The application doesn't have access to the recording buffer, as far as i know. I don't have much time to work on it, but definetly keep me informed if you find anything useful!

well i was just thinking of a smiple chromatic tuner. I dont really care what the interface is, like a needle would be cool but whatever, its all good, as long as its easy to read. the only feature that i would really like is the ability to use line-in so i can plug it in through my amp, as i doubt the mic would be any good :P

also, if possible, you may as well pack in just the sounds for those that know how to tune by ear :P (i dont :<)

I've found this program that im using on my laptop atm.

its called enable guitar tuner, its reallly good, the interface is awesome and it tunes a number of instruments. i dont know anything about programming, but maybe you could decompile it and see how it works? :P

good luck dude,
thanks for this!
(anxiously awaiting)

Huh sounds like a good idea, but have some doubts on if it's even possible.
