iRiver frozen

Started playing a song, 1 second into a song and it's frozen.

The red LED is on, cant do anything, none of the buttons do anything.
Tried pressing the reset button. Now I'm just waiting for the player to run out of battery.

It's a stable version of rockbox so I'm annoyed that it's frozen.

Why has this happened? anyway to avoid this in the futured etc?

Maybe it's because you dropped your player and it keeps corrupting your files, and some of your songs won't play even after replacing them. I've read your other threads.

See, these things are all relevant. So each time you start a new thread and you don't include this information, you're leaving out potential causes of the problem. I know I've already suggested that you stop making new threads every time you have a question, but you don't seem to have listened. By making tons of different threads asking for help, you're really hurting yourself. We can't help you because we don't have the full story. So please, if you have an issue, post it in one of the other 5 threads you've made in the past 12 days...

I haven't read any of your other threads, so I can't comment on those, but your problem does sound like it's related to a hard drive, most likely because the player's been dropped which has caused the heads to crash against the platter, thereby corrupting that part of the disk. I say this because I had identical behaviour with one of my H120s - it would get to a certain set of MP3s (presumably located on the corrupted part of the hard disk), and the red disk access light would stay on constantly and the player would freeze and not play any more music. However, if I held the player against my ear, I could hear a clickety-click noise from the drive, presumably trying, and failing, to access the corrupted part of the disk.

I've whipped the disk out of my player, hooked it up to my PC via a 1.8" drive connector-to-ATA adapter and subjected it to the scrutiny of a whole swag of low-level diagnostic tools, and it's definitely screwed. So screwed in fact, that I've just bought and installed a 30GB hard drive replacement. Hey presto, no more song freezes. The player is working perfectly again.

Now, if the problem keeps happening, and always in the same place, I reckon that your hard disk is buggered. If you hold the player against your ear when it freezes and the red light is on, does it make the same clickety-click noise over and over? If it does, then it's almost certain you have a knackered hard disk. I guess you won't know until it's run out of juice and you are able to try it again. If it does the same thing again, then I'd put money on your hard drive being stuffed.

Hmmm hopefully it won't come to that.

I played the same track again and it was fine, the tracks don't get corrupted anymore (although I havn't checked them all yet) hopefully it was just a one off but thanks for the help. If it happens again I'll look into getting a new hard drive.

I know I'm doubleposting but I need to ask a brand new question so;

The other day whilst trying to record, I recorded asbout 50 seconds and realised I had the optical cable in the wrong jack. I pressed the record button (I think) to stop the recording (the wrong button) and my iriver froze. I pressed lots of buttons (eg holding stop) to try and turn it off but nothing.

I came back later after attempting to let the battery run down but it had turned off. The battery never even ran out.....

Anyway today I tried again, and I recorded fine. Except the firmware manual differs from my player. It says holding "select" takes you to an options screen. It does not. Also it says "play" starts recording and "stop" stops it. For me the "record" button starts it and the "stop" button stops it.
I can press A-B to get to some options screen but it is not the full one. It is missing options, I can't change the quality or file type, it will only record to .wav

Can someone help me?
