Recording defaults

I'm going to try recording music in a live setting for the first time using RockBox tonight (that is, I've done it before with the iRiver Firmware).

Since I've never used the gain controls before, is the default recording volume ok? I guess I'll see the meters when I record, but I'm thinking I won't be able to interpret anything this first time around. Is the recording volume comparable to the recording volume that's used with the iRiver firmware?

Basically, will I be ok using all defaults? The one thing I activated is the option that's supposed to make file editing easier afterward - forget what it's called.

I'm really looking forward to the feature whereby while recording, if you just press Play, it closes the current file, stops recording and immediately opens a new file and starts recording. This will save me a lit of stress! Can people who've used this report on how well it worked for them?

As far as the levels go it totally depends on how loud the thing you are recording is!

The build in my signature includes an automaic gain control which will increase/decrease the gain automatically if it isnt quite right. Maybe that would be useful to you? This feature will be part of the official build after V3 comes out (it can't be added yet because of the feature freeze).
