Did you follow the instructions properly?
Check here to make sure you did.

Remember, all installations must be followed with either a daily build or an optimized.

Get your daily build here and make sure you download the correct one pertaining to your player.

If you want the experimental build there is a thread you can download it from and it's located here.

Everything will work out properly if you follow the instructions. The best of luck with it.

P.S. I renamed your thread to a more suitable title so more people will respond.

You'll also want to download the manual. Check the "Sources of Rockbox Info" link in my signature. The first link is a link to the manual.

Seriously, read the manual. It is intended for "total newbies"!

One question: when you turn your player on, does it show a Rockbox logo before you get to the blank screen?

yeah, i know, but i meant that i am a iriver h120 hdd.player newbie... should i learn how to use the player with the iriver firmware eitherway?

oh, the blank screen phenomenon is gone --- i pressed RESET and now the rockbox screen appears, it boots, i can also boot with the original firmware, but e.g. the shuffle function does not include more than the current folder and stuff + various other negative events are happening.... but i will check the manual about that.... i downloaded it even before installing rockbox, i am trying to be a good girl

At this point, I think that the only reason to use the original firmware on the H100 series is if you have .wma files, which are not supported by Rockbox (yet). Otherwise, there's no need to learn the iriver firmware before you learn Rockbox.

I would be interested to know whether you find the manual useful, and if you have any suggestions for how it could be made better.

Rockbox is constantly being improved and updated....

If you use a 'bleeding edge' build you will have all of the features described on the rockbox homepage.

At the end of every day a 'daily' build is made, so this build will contain all the updates up until the end of the previous day.

A lot of people make their own customized builds which have extra or slightly changed features to the official builds (the official builds being the daily and bleeding edge), The experimental build is an example of this, as is the build in my signature.

Hope that makes sense...
