Where can I find a simulator ?

Somewhere I read about a Rockbox simulator with which you can view a wps.
Although I did some searching I cannot find it, although I maybe did not search enough. I found some posts but it is a little confusing for me as a Rockbox noob.
Could someone help me and does it work for the H120 ?
Thanks in advance

The simulator is a program you can compile yourself from the rockbox sources. That's the best way to make sure it's up to date, and nice because you can apply patches to try out new features.

It works for all Rockbox ports- you compile it like you would compile a build, just pressing "S" for simulator (instead of the usual "N") when it prompts you...

Read the "Simple Guide To Compiling".

It may look complicated but in reality it isn't. The instructions are basic step-by-step, telling you pretty much exactly what to type, and once you've done it for the first time it becomes second nature.

EDIT: Sorry, nearly forgot you LGMS ! LGMS compliles a H3xx simulator which he puts up for download in his thread. If you don't want to bother compiling your own, head that way...

Thanks drippydonut,
I gave it a try but, although the guide is pretty clear it is still too complicated for me. Somewhere I got stuck. I think I still need some knowledge about programming to accomplish it.
I will look at the thread by LGMS.

When I wrote "oups error" it's was because I've realized he has wanted the H1xx simulator, not the H3xx!!!

If you want the H1xx simulator I can compile one for you but without patches!

LGMS,
I don't know how to thank you enough.You are great and it's great !!!
One question though:
Although I will not need it much, but which keystroke is meant for the Rec. button ?
I cannot find it on my keyboard.
Many, many thanks again.

LGMS, is it possible to use another Rockbox build in your simulator and if so how should I do that ?
I tried it meanwhile but than I get an error message regarding the Temp codec.dll.

no you can't. It's necessary to compile a new version.
Do you want some patches with this new version?

No not necessarily, but I was anxious and tried the optimized build from pilot000 and then got that error.
Update:
Meanwhile I think I found out how to do it.
With some help on the Rockbox forum I am now able to compile a build (although there is no point doing so, because I still have to learn how to patch), and how to build a simulator as well. The simulator is of course very basic and not so nice as yours, having only a display.
I downloaded the source code from pilot000, added a uisimulator folder and compiled a simulator, zipped it with "make zip" and extracted it in your simulator. As far as I can see it works now.
Am doing this the right way ?

Thanks again LGMS ! Great job.

But what about my above post ? Is this a or the right way to do it ?
I would like to know for my " learning curve".

It's not by this way I compile my simulator. I use Rockbox guide with cygwin.

First I download last cvs
then I patch
To finish I compile the simulator thanks to cygwin

I also used cygwin. Although I said above that it was too complicated for me, after studying the guide and some trial and error, I finally succeeded in the compiling thing. Now I still have to learn the patching.
But I assume that the very nice simulator you made is not exactly as it comes out of cygwin ? I mean: You added the surrounding picture of the H120 somehow? The simulator I succeeded to make with cygwin consists only of an imitation of the lcd screen.

Its simply an extra parameter you choose when you run the simulator... can't remember it off hand, but I'll post in a second.

EDIT: Run it with "--background". The easiest thing to do is to create a shortcut that, for example, links to
Code:
C:\cygwin\home\Matt\rockbox-devel\simulator\rockboxui.exe --background
(where "C:\cygwin\home\Matt \rockbox-devel\simulator\rock boxui.exe" is the path of the simulator).

the easy way and so annoying!!!

Before to compile you must edit a file in uisimulator directory. In sdl directory you have a file : uisdl.c

Open it with a text editor and change false to true in line 48.

Hey that works. Thanks.
I only noticed that in the simulator I made, I have to use the 0/Ins key of the numeric keys for the menu, instead of the . key as is in the picture and which does work in LGMS's simulator. But that is no problem of course.
Thanks again and also thanks again to LGMS.
edit:
Oh I didn't see the post by LGMS and drippydonut's reaction on that when I replied.
Is it this part:
/* Try and load the background image. If it fails go without */
if (background) {
picture_surface = SDL_LoadBMP("UI256.b mp");
if (picture_surface == NULL) {
background = false;
fprintf(stderr, "warn: %s", SDL_GetError());

Sorry for asking again, but LGMS could you be more specific about which line has to be edited ?
Is it the part I quoted above ?
