fwpatcher won't work with 1.60US
Is this a known bug, is this firmware unsupported, or am I doing something wrong?

I am getting my firmware off This Link:

http://www.iriveramerica.com/download/H120/iHP_120.hex

fwpatcher says the checksum is wrong.

Is it in fact patching regardless of the checksum and warning me, or is it failing altogether by giving me this message?

There's a version of the firmware here that seems to do the trick- http://arachnid.homeip.net/rockbox_ihp_120.hex

You'll have to rename it to the correct filename (the one you had originally), but it did the trick on my player.

1.60US is not one of the firmware versions supported by fwpatcher.exe. Use one of the firmware versions shown on the chart on this page:

OK, I'll stick to 1.63 - it seems to be the best for my needs (No pooched FM Radio memory)... It only seems to be a minor graphical change from 1.60 anyway. Please let me know if this isn't the case.
