Great news:
Finaly i tried to modify the bitmaps of the Rockbox modified HEX (including bootloader). I did it with H3Modd (thanks LordJulius!). Then i made the firmware upgrade at my own risk and...it worked fine! Now i've the Rockbox/iriver firmware working with my personall images under iriver original fw... DISCLAIMER: I can assume that things will work for you as for me... Especially if you mistake during modding operation... Do it at your wn risk! I won't take any responsability in case you got some damage trying this!

OK this is not me having a go at the Rockbox devs. But I need to get this off my chest. Development of the audio side seems to have slowed dramatically after all the hoo ha about Linus getting a lot fo the hardware side working. I know they do it for free. I know I have NO right to complain. But it does seem that all the effort is going into 'games' type addons rather than what the thing was made for which is playing music. I myself am itching to get even basic MP3 playback using Rockbox. Mainly for the gapless mode and OTF playlists etc.
I do of course realise that the audio playback architecture for seamless codec integration is a big job. I also realise that the LCD on the remote needs a lot of work too (Saw the bit about the specs for the remote LCD being obtained BTW). I just wish there were more people capable of coding the audio side of things than the gimmicks side of things This is just me whinging. Please do not take this personally. If I could code I'd be doing it myself and helping out. As soon as the audio side of things are there I will feel something worthwhile has come about (Games mean little to me) and a donation will be winging it's way to Rockbox when it does. But currently reading about 'Hey we go Pokemon gameboy running on it' kinda just makes me feel a bit frustrated (Good for you gamers and gimmick people obviously) OK got that off my chest. Please do not flame me for my own selfish wishes

Hi Deadman,
Linus has really no time for dev at the moment since he has some real life problems (not the place to talk about this here)... Don't panic even if Linus leave the active devloppement (don't think it's the case) the iRiverport isn't abandonated... Just let them some time... About the Rockboy project it's a plugin don't forget this... His author (HCl) isn't involved in any way in the Audio API part... Also keep in mind the developpement isn't "constant", it a "step process"... When the actual difficulties (choice of an AUDIO Api architecture) will be solved progress will be back too... Till next difficulties... Best regards, tanguy

Thanks for that. I do realise people have lives and they are doing this as a fun pastime rather than a paid job so kudos to everyone involved. I wish I could zip forward in time to when it is done

I know the new one ain't great (for a start they've condensed what would originally have been a 6-part series into about 45mins) but I was brought up on repeats of it so I can't help loving it. Tom Baker rules. |

There'd have been some sorta big announcement if it were. I think it just means that they're another step closer. |

Ok...Here's hoping I can type more than a paragraph without my PC crashing on me. (happened just before as I was typing a response ere'.)
Well, I know that at least one person wants me to address this whole thing, and so I will. I was hoping you guys could settle this in a more gentlemanly fashion, such as trying to compromise, come up with some good suggestions etc, instead of playing tennis with one another, but alas, that's not happenin' today. And when I say good suggestions, I don't mean such as just creating another thread for the H3xx series, and here's why: My first thought with all of this, in order to quicky alleviate this silly thing, was to create the thread. But then some sort of wierd logic crept all over me and told me this: If I create another thread, exclusively for the RB H3xx port, (which has not even been confirmed to be done), what will happen is that there will be just as many redundant posts there, as there are already in THIS thread, which will either : A) Get the same amount of responses there, as they've gotten here. (Which is practically none) ____________________ ____________________ __________ Ya know what ? Forget all of that up there. I'm just going to create it. May seem silly after having typed all that, but another thought and idea just hit me, and I'm goin with it. So ....all H3xx users, prepare to move yer carcases outa this thread and into yer' own. Because apparently, you kids don't play nicely in the big tent of balls. (ya know ..those things they have for kids in street fairs, or McDonalds..where you jump in and roll around in the coloured plastic balls ? Yeah...I've done it..so what. And recently too..so nyea.) P.S. Oh, and all the fighting posts will be removed here.

Also, the games-and-gimmicks stuff is not developed by the same people as the "core" stuff. And they are entitled to do whatever they want, IMHO. This is a fairly common argument in open source projects. See the Rockbox FAQ, question 77: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/vie...veloping_X_whe Regarding my real-life problem that Tang mentioned, it isn't exactly a new one. My wife is unable to walk since the birth of our second child, 2.5 years ago. Since then, she's in constant pain and is on heavy drugs to cope. That leaves me less time for development than the other guys, I suppose, since I have to take care of her as well as the kids. Now you know.
