Now this is something that currently in Rockbox hasnt been implemented yet (correct me if I am wrong) and this is due to archos that cant have ogg vorbis. So rockbox didnt do any research there.

But I dont think that this little detail will stand obstacle to the devs!

I beleive the iRiver FW can do VorbisGain tags, that may be assumption on my part as i know it does ReplayGain and MP3Gain

It can't though. It would be really useful for me since I have a mixture of mp3 and Ogg.

I'm in the same situation as you, but with some WMAs as well which are going to have to be converted because i doubt RBx will support WMA. But hey, if RBx can support VorbisGain then good on them. I just know that iRiver can already do MP3Gain with MP3 files.

Great, my entire 5,000 song library is WMA.

**innumerable curses and kicks at the wall**

if rkbx didnt support it....ugh prolly wouldnt use it.

Licencing.

BTW preglow is making great strides in MP3 decoding with 192K MP3 (Lame alt-preset standard) being decoded at 200% realtime.

The big problem at present is no real inroads seem to be made into coding an API for codecs to 'plugin' and output to the audio out. It's a major job apparently? Also the remote LCD needs major work since the interface of Rockbox needs to work on a smaller screensize.

About the ReplayGain, mp3Gain, and VorbisGain:

ReplayGain is a standard for volume normalisation upon playback. The reason iRiver players can play back mp3Gained files with the gain changes is because mp3Gain actually modifies the global gain field of the mp3 files. The change is permanent to the file (though reversible - undo information is stored in a tag). VorbisGain however does ReplayGain in a more traditional method by storing the gain data in a series of tags that the player reads to know how to adjust the volume. iRiver players currently do need read these tags.

You can do mp3 ReplayGaining in tags too (and I do it this way) but the iRiver players don't read them in mp3 files either.

Is there any indication yet that the wav recording clicks and size limitations will be fixable through porting the firmware (i.e. what are the chances that it is in fact NOT a hardware issue)?

Also, is it too soon to tell or do you think the 3xx firmware port will enable wav recording on those units rather than forcing mp3 recording upon the user?

Thanks for all your hard work guys, can't wait to see the results!

so, i'm just about ready to make and install rockbox on my h140.
why? i...don't really know.

but i'm a *little* bit paranoid, have read the bootloader warning and all. so a few questions to throw out there:

has the bootloader/fw caused anyone any serious problems? i saw something on the IRC logs about someone's corrupted filesystem (though that may have been due to 'unsafely' unplugging the usb cable?).

and if all else fails-

more specifically, if the bootloader fails, meaning i am unable to even boot into the original iriver firmware to reflash and restore things, i should still be able to build a hardware interface (er, ...BDM... wiggler?) to upload new firmware directly no? or is this interface expensive?

just looking for that little bit of reassurance...
i suppose i could always just....wait.

Rubber-glove, tp paraphrase what MANY people involved with Rockbox have said, thier firmware for the h-1xx is not ready for general use, even with alpha, let alonne beta release levels of reliability. Unless you are specifically going to work on a development issue you are advised to NOT load rockbox at this time.

Since you confess to not knowing why you want to load it I am led to believe that you have no specific reason for doing so, besides of course playing with your shiny new toy.

There is a good chance, that a bad flash could leave you with a shiny, new paperweight.

Please, if you have no skills in development, let Linus and his team have at it a while longer, when it hits a useable stage i'm sure we here will know very quickly.

Till that time, keey your h1xx working and happy with iriver firmware. If you feel you must do something, then chuck a few bucks at the team to help further development.

That's very cool.

Have you been to here? Look at all those codecs! And I had no idea there were plans for MIDI support!

Am I right in thinking that once you've flashed the iRiver/Rockbox-bootloader combo you don't need to flash it anymore but just update the Rockbox firmware file on the HDD when newer versions show up?

Well, for me the best day will be when it runs at my H340
I hope to see some progress for a H3xx port soon
It would also mean that you will be a lucky guy that day...
... Why?
Because then the H1xx port has been completed

i had the shock of my life when i tried to view a tracks id3 tag while on a train only to find it crashes the device!! i spent the next 20mins trying to push a tiny bit of paper inside the reset hole.

i keep a badge on my coat now, incase it happens again.

Thumbs up Go you !

I just wanted to voice my support for rockbox on the H120 ! I know the project since the first versions on Archos hardware, it got me interested in DAPs in the first place, and when I read that the team would port it to Irivers I knew I had to buy one !

A couple of pointless things I wanted to mention :

-theglassjaw's avatar freaked me out a bit since I took almost the same photo in Sydney (I'm french) - it was weird to hit the forum, ready to register, and see this familiar pic. Sorry for the off-topicing !

-Someone (me?) should make an iPod emulator / simulator on the H120, and then make it do stuff which would be totally unthinkable on apple's brick, just for trolling purposes
