Interesting idea. It would be relatively simple to make it into a text file, although that would not have the functionality of crossreferencing and hyperlinks, and some of the organizational structure would be lost. I am not a programmer so I couldn't tell you if it would be possible to implement some sort of more complex reader as a plugin.

I appreciate it, but no thanks are necessary. This is my way of contributing and giving something back to the project since I am not a coder, but my contributions are very small compared to Linus and all of the other folks who have spent so much time developing the actual firmware.

Speaking only for myself, I hate writing doc. I'm so much more pleased to just write the code and get my patches committed to CVS. Doc is not my cup of tea and I'm no good at it. Everyone who contributes can only contribute where their skill set falls. I'm writing code. You're writing doc. Both are necessary.

IIRC, they're still in Feature Freeze mode, so only bugs are being fixed ATM ...

I think some of us just post anything RB related at the official site now.

I haven't checked in for QUITE some time. So I take it we still DO NOT have RB software (firmware?) for the iHP-120 (aka H120)? I looked on rockbox.org but did not see it listed.

I supposed I'll start at the beginning and read (or skim) thru to find out what's going on.

Do my eyes deceive me ???

I mean, I've read some pretty ridiculous things in my time here, but seriously, that's got to be No. 1 ...

What more?

Apart from an officially included remote patch what else is there to go into RB?

I personally am VERY happy with what I've got and I can't conceivably think of anything else I want it to be able to do!

Plus other refinements for developers wanting some discreet challenges, such as:

-- FF/REW with sound (as far as I can tell, this is one of the only things that iRiver has that RB doesn't! and it really is needed)
-- ability to use REW to go from the current first song in a folder to the last song in the prior folder
-- a more developed db (well, some people use a db, and it could be fun!)
-- A-B looping during play
-- album skipping (to get to the next folder/album quickly and easily during play, when you don't like the current one, such as while exercising or driving -- the short press + long press combination under iRiver; one of the only other features that comes to mind that iRiver has that RB doesn't, yet)
-- improved navigation in long lists (such as in db song lists--perhaps using a short press + long press combination to go the next letter in the alphabet or down a set amount of listings, or dynamic scrolling in lists?)
-- folder shuffle (shuffle the folders and then play each entire folder).

They seem eminently do-able (and I just wish I had the skills to help in that regard).

Rockbox can do that. Search the setting "Beep volume" in the "general settings" menu.

Very useful, you're right

Perhaps, you don't know the PLAY+ UP/DOWN functionality? It's quite enough in my opinion.

I think he means being able to hear the song when you are fast forwarding/rewinding, helpful for finding the right spot in long tracks.

Yep, by FFand REW with sound I meant the ability to hear the file play while in FF and REW, as with the original iRiver firmware. This is also helpful in studying language and music, rather than blind-guessing as to how far to wind back to (including whern you can't look at the screen, such as while driving or exercising).

And I'm familiar with and use the Play + up/down function, it's just that I feel like I'm playing a game of "Twister" when using it, requiring both hands. IMHO, a dynamic scroll speed in going through lists would be a dramatic (one-handed! ) improvement on this (as could be a short press + long press combination of some sort, perhaps skipping to the next letter of the alphabet, if that is possible, or through a set number of listings).

All fair points, FWD/RWD with sound is probably the only one ther I'm really bothered about.

Actually, there is one other thing, really want song rating working properly too (assuming it isn't yet?). I'd like to be able to show the star rating on the WPS.
