Exactly what I was looking for (although I wish I knew what each family of fonts was, before downloading and opening )!

Many thanks!

And a further larger font that works (a bit less-embellished than the above), charB10.

Are there any Windows programs for editing bdf fonts?

I have a viewer, but not an editor. I find it hard enough in finding BDFs that will work!

Was the volume problem fixed? I installed today's build and changed the volume from mute to 100 back and forth during playback of MP3 at 128kbps CBR, and 320kbps VBR without problems. Haven't check for OGG files or the pop sounds problem though.

I have yesterday's build and it was fine until just now, when the volume just lagged dramatically. But I've been experimenting with the player loads today, and it was fine yesterday.

Okay, so I employed a few shell scripts on the Xorg server tarball, and ended up with about a gazillion Rockbox fonts with nice images and all downloadable.

There's actually already a link at the top of each sub-page to an archive of all the fonts on that page.

This was incredibly considerate of you to do--many thanks! And this just saved me countless hours, and I never would have been able to come up with all of these, anyway.

I now have dozens of great fonts to use, that work perfectly--including larger-sized fonts that there were too few of. The only problem now is, choosing between so many fonts.

(One thing I found, in trying to download all the fonts from a page: when I try to open the resulting archive file (e.g. 75dpi-rockbox-fnt.tar.tar), I get the error message, "Error reading header" and I can't get at the contents. Do I need a special reader to open the archive file up? In the meanwhile, I just downloaded individual font files. Thanks--)

Many thanks, again--

This news should probably have it's own thread! Thanks for the fonts, one issue though, and I've seen this mentioned elsewhere.

On the larger fonts, the M's are not showing correctly. Any fixes?

I think you're browser is playing silly tricks on you. The file should be called 75dpi-rockbox-fnt.tar.gz, not .tar.tar. Try renaming the file and see if it works then. Winzip, Winrar and 7zip should work (and of course, tar and gzip under Linux)

I've no idea about that, sorry. If anyone knows, please enlighten me.

I think Linus there was talking about using different fonts on one WPS screen, which some people have been asking for. I dont think it would be too complicated to have a different font for your menus then your WPS.

I am more than happy with one font on the main screen wps at the moment, but would prefer a different font for system menus and a large one for the remote (to use in car )

will wait and see.

I have a question about OTF playlists.

Whenever I make one it adds ALL the files from the folder into the playlist, so if I add one track next, and then add another track as last because I want to hear the 2nd track before the 3rd, it sticks it right at the bottom of the list after the rest of the album tracks... is that ment to happen and is there a way around it?

Brodel, take a look at this thread: One button Insert, over writing playlist and some other stuff

There is some discussion (particularly in the later part of the thread) that may address your issue.

Here's a dump

This is with helvB18-L1.fnt, although it seems any of the larger ones I was interested in do this, with the exception of the fixed width fonts, none of which were large enough for my purpose.

Thanks, Rasher--I just changed the final extension to gz and it unzips fine. I thought maybe I had done something to have caused the issue, but I just double-checked, and the browser, in preparing to download, says the file is named 75dpi-rockbox-fnt.tar.tar--weird.

Of course, the problem now is that I have so many alternate fonts, I needed to set up a separate "fonts favorites" folder on my player--thanks, again!

This seems to occur when characters in the font are too large for Rockbox. I don't know if you can edit those characters down--I've just passed on those fonts, not knowing if another solution is possible.

Actually, I think you're close here. I don't think it's the font that's too large, since it loads afterall (really large fonts just don't load). But I've noticed that it's the widest characters, so maybe there's a maximum size for characters as well as fonts?

Bagder? Linus? (probably not the right place for this, actually)

That's what I was getting after, in my non-precise language. The fonts page at Rockbox says,

Quote:
Any BDF font file up to 16 pixels high should be usable with Rockbox.
The M (and some other characters) problem occurs in that neighborhood.
