I'd just like to add my support to the dude who posted on the RockBox forums asking for CUE file support. Whilst I realise gapless should get rid of the need for CUE files in order to skip between tracks. It will be a pain trying to split big MP3 files I already have into seperate MP3 tracks. CUE file support would still be pretty cool for this particular issue.

I think I will come back to this in a few months time. It's too much stress waiting to see if anything is happening everyday

Well I saw a guy that asked from HCl a compiled iHP firmaware with a bootloader. Now he can run Rockbox in his iHP. Guess what I am doing right now. I downloaded from the links of the log, the moded firmware and a daily build and upgraded the firmware (the usual way). Now when I press play the magnificent icon of Rockbox appears and in just 3 seconds (or less) the player is ready for input.I can play some games or even snake2!!! And guess what? I can delete, rename or create folders on the fly!!! *sigh* when playback is ready............... ..

They even have install instructions now, with this bit fat disclaimer:
WARNING! The boot loader is not well tested. If it malfunctions, you may not be able to restore the flash contents, and your player will be rendered USELESS! This is for the time being only for developers. Rockbox is not even close to useful for ordinary users. You do this on your own risk!!! I'm not linking to it, because if you can't find it, you shouldn't be using it... Guess I'm gonna have to install Linux on this thing. Should be interesting to see if it'll work on a bleeding edge system... |

I am shaking.
Yes, shaking. I've had my iHP120 (NOT h120, n00bs) for a long long time. I've always held that it's the best DAP on the market, though I've also always known that with the right firmware upgrades, it will be absolutely incredible. I gave up on iriver firmware promises a year ago, when they repeatedly lied about release dates, and now seem to have forgotten about us iHP owners altogether. But the day of reckoning is near. Rockbox is most definatly on the horizon, I can't sleep, I can't eat, I've lost all my friends, my girlfriend has left me, and I haven't showered in weeks. I don't care. It's coming, it's coming soon. It is going to turn my already amazing bit of kit into magic. To those of you working on Rockbox, thank you, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You have raised me from a pit of despair, you have given me a reason to live (and to shower). I love you guys, I really do. If there's anything (ANYTHING) I can do to repay you, please let me know. -demonic

Keep up the good work guys. I too have had my IHP for about a year and over the past 365 days I say I have checked for iRiver firmware updates about 350!! So you can imagine I have been very disappointed, I only found out about rockbox about a month ago, great news.
Just one question, I have on my PC a sound effect manager where you can pick different sound settings; Hallway, Underwater, bathroom etc. The one I use allot is "Concert Hall" It gives a nice echo to the song and makes it sound quite well. Has this been, or can it be implemented? No worries if not, I'm grateful for everything you're doing as it is |

I guess the word is getting out. Everything else will soon be the envy of the Iriver, if they are not already. Rock on Rockbox

Moved here from the non-discussion board to avoid canine deaths:
A few things. First, I echo TCK's post about the video game music file support, and asking if there's any possibility of having it. Second, and having a bit to do with the first, what are the chances of having support for WinAmp plugins? That way, most of the music file support could be done through the plethora of those, VG music included. Third, what are the chances of having midi support, possibly using a setup similar to Timidity to render the midis (by using the sound patches and rendering it through wav output instead of midi)? This could greatly increase my music collection by several thousand songs. And would be nice. Well, that's all for requests and stuff. Other than that, this looks to be shaping up to be a most worthy replacement for the... Lacking... iRiver firmware. Nice job. |

paranoia
so, i had a weird bout of late-winter paranoia the other day. it brought back to mind an idea i had a while back for some 'security' features for the new firmware.
already, (i know this is probably pointless) my bootlogo has (a picture of eraserhead and) the words: STOLEN FROM: XXX-XXX-XXXX (i.e. my phone number). i figure at very least it should keep it out of a pawn shop. and maybe even give some saintly iriverfinder a number to call to return it to me... but i was thinking it would be much more useful if it was 'password' protected. i.e. after turning it on, you must enter the proper key sequence (a la nintendo secret game code - up down up down left right left right...) to get past the boot screen (displaying contact info, reward offers, etc...). thus making the player unusable without the password. i know, sure, many people might tend to forget their secret code (fools!). but they could always just use a default (discretely) published code - on the assumption that most theives wouldn't know about rockbox or where to look...etc. sure, it would take an extra second or so to boot up, and chances are it wouldn't get your player back to you (but maybe, just maybe, it would!), but it might at least ruin the stealing experience for someone. certainly someone who FOUND a player would be more likely to return it if they couldn't use it themselves, no? anyhoo, beware. -- nwar.afraid.org |

Great idea!! I have my number on the boot screen of my phone too and I would feel that bit more confident if it was on my H too. Here's hoping for it! And of course, users could choose to have it prompt or not within the firmware once it boots up. |
