Nice. That's pretty useful actually!

Ah cool yeah.. thanks. I'll try that out, not sure which I'll stick with though.

Another thing, can you add your own fonts? I think "Tahoma" (same font used on this forum actually) is a good one for things like this. I have it on snap at the moment, easiest to read.

Would it not make more sense to make the buttons do the same thing as they do with the iRiver firmware? seems a bit confusing the way a-b is the menu. Or is that just temporary?

Also, has anybody noticed that with the new audio patch that the database has stopped working? Does anybody know how to get the v2 database to work? I get an error message saying "unsupported database version 2!"

Whoa, just tried using the Pong plugin whilst playing a track, and it's now completely crashed.

Hard disk read light is permanently on, as is the backlight.

All that it says on screen is:

ID4:IllInstr
at 32F401A2

No way of turning it off either. Guess I have to wait for the battery to rundown.

Press the reset button. I've got a similar error a few times too.

Ok, something weird happening here.. I was playing a few songs there and it wasn't doing the gapless thing (you know the way that with a few seconds of a song left, the info of the next song comes on) well that wasn't happening. I tried put on a different song and it wouldn't do it again, then I tried again with another one, not too sure what I did, or how I got it to play, a combination of pushing in the joystick and pressing play, not sure which did the job, but now it's back doing the next song info screen and gapless that I mentioned about the live album is working again. Wonder what happened?

I've tried to make one following the instructions on the rockbox website but to no avail! Is anyone here an expert with .wps screens? I have a few questions!

Can we just use this bootloader http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IriverBoot to patch a firmware to use on the iHP-120.

Will this have mp3/ogg/etc. playback? Or is that not ready? Or do I need to download a different firmware/method to get the latest rockbox, with playback?

The boot loader just tells teh iriver to boot the rockbox fw

use that then copy the rockbox.iriver file and the .rockbox folder from the zip file's above posted by jamesshuang post about 788 of this thread to ur iriver.

wow that's odd, the patch committed on rockbox is playing some of my mp3's slowly......lemme check if it does the same thing for slasheri's patch.......

EDIT: it does the same thing on the previous patch......what causes this anyway? it's just any regular mp3 file. my Gorillaz - Feel good inc. is in slo-mo hehe. sounds funny.

I'll post it on the front page as soon as there is some stability. Right now I cannot get the gapless issue figured out. I still have a gap in my OGG and MP3 for some reason.

Get it working Jeff! hehe....The gapless is like you would not believe......

Anyway, i was just wondering. Has anyone tested the battery life for the playback yet when the battery is fully charged? I know it's still is it's early stages of production in terms of playback but it'll be an interesting stat to know how efficient the playback is compared to iRiver's FW.

I haven't done a proper test, but I'm estimating somewhere between 6-8 hours. Which is okay for now, if you ask me. But that figure should get better over time.

^^^^it should just work straight up. Try repatching the .hex file and reflashing rockbox on the player? and then get recent rockbox.zip from the site. Well that's what i did and it's working fine on my H140.

Instructions for idiot

I've been following this thread with interest and now that there is some playback I've decided it's time to actually put RB on my 140 and start getting used to it.

So... is the a web page or something somewhere with nice step by step instructions for dummies on how to get, install and run the boot loader and RB it's self. I know there's been losts of information in here but it's sort of scattered.

I also know real dummies shouldn't be playing with it yet and there is a risk of "bricking" (but no one seems to have done that yet).

If not I guess I'll have to gather the information and make such a page myself.

Download unaltered iriver H120/H140 firmware, uncompress the zip.
Download rockbox fwpatcher. Open fwpatcher, and patch the iriver firmware.
Check MD5 checksum of patched iriver/rockbox combined firmware file against this page. IMPORTANT!

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IriverBoot

Copy the patched hex file and flash as you would normal firmware.
Download daily build, uncompress and copy to iriver.
Switch off iriver, on again and should now start in Rockbox.

Neff i'm a total idiot when it comes to this kinda stuff but you get your head around it. Plus the fwpatcher.exe does everything for you. So it's not hard.

-Just get a fresh, umodded 1.65K firmware and patch it with the fwpatcher.exe. I don't thinkyou need to check for the MD5 checksum when your patching with the fwpatcher.exe (do you?).

Then copy over the new .hex file patched to the root of your iRiver, along with extracting this to the root.

Then finally, go along with the usual firmware upgrade & walla! Your done. It should load up when u next press play. Also if u wanna use the iRiver FW, just hold down the record button when u turn on the unit. Enjoy!
