Rockbox sans wma is fine by me and I suspect many here would agree. As long as mp3LAME and ogg are supported I will be a happy camper. AFAI am concerned wma is more trouble than its worth and is no near as user configurable as mp3LAME or sounds as good as ogg.
Keep up the good work guys. sdz

I'm with Seadzz on this one. The fact that there's no wma support may affect some people but there's no way it'll nullify the project for more than a handful of people. Anyway, I'd take an alt-preset-standard mp3 over any wma any day!
Keep up the awesome work Linus and the rbx crew! |

ive been thinking about this,
does rockbox allow you to simply plug in the features and accomodate them dynamically, or does it needed to be coded to accept the plugins? because i was thinking, what if someone was to make a less-than-legal WMA plug in? (not sure if this is an ok topic to discuss so feel free to delete it, mods). what you think? -Jim |

The idea is to be able to add 3rd party codecs just by copying the codec plugin file to the rockbox directory.
Also, even if nobody else would use Rockbox on the iRiver because of the lack of WMA support, I would still use it myself. That's one of the main reasons for me to work on it.

I'm another one (of many i suspect) that would rather use the Rockbox port whether WMA is onboard or not - in fact it would be a good excuse to re-rip most of my tunes that frankly sound crap in WMA format...

Will Rockbox allow playback as normal whilst USB cable is connected?

The only problem i can see is that when rockbox is upgraded, the custom plugins will have to be copied over to the new version, a bit like with gameboy saves at the mo, i keep forgeting this and have to open them manually from my .rockbox backups. - not really that much of a prob and i dont think there is much that can be done about it, i just find it anoying. Anyways amazing work, bring on music playback!!
